  • Speaking For Joel Osteen At Lakewood Church

I had the priviledge of speaking for Joel Osteen last night at Lakewood Church. So many people have asked me what I was impressed with at Lakewood. My answer was not the building, lights or even the thousands of people. I was so blessed by being with Joel and Victoria and realizing how real, down to earth and loving they are to everyone!

Joel is not a television personality rather he is a man who loves Jesus and people with all his heart. He is the real deal and I thank God for him and all that he is doing in reaching people with the Message of Hope! I would ask people to continue to pray for Joel and Victoria as God is using them to reach new people for Christ.

Believe me Lakewood is all about Jesus and people. Though they are America's largest church they still love each person individually.

    More to come.

  • God Is Your Source, The devil is your enemy, You Are A Leader

Today I want to reshare a post that I had made a few months back. I shared this with my staff and want to share it with you. Three simple things I pointed out: 1. God is your source, 2. the devil is your enemy and 3. you are a leader. So many times we get these 3 things mixed up as we face challenges in our lives. We must keep the lines clear so we don't get confused and begin to think that God is our enemy, people are our source and we are victims.

Everyday I must draw definitive lines so that I don't look to men as my source of significance or to my employer as my source or even people as my enemy. When I realize I am a leader, then I take responsibility for my own life.

In the next few days, I will unpack each one of these and how we can apply them to our lives. Around our office you will hear, "God is my source, the devil is my enemy and I am a leader." Matthew 6:33 is a good verse to think about today.

  • 10 Annoying Meeting Behaviors

I saw this article and thought it was so good I wanted to share it with you. All of us have to be in meetings at least once a day. I know that some meetings are done well while others are grueling. If we learn how respond in meetings they will go so much better. So I hope you enjoy this article:

    1. Late arrival. Hyatt says this behavior wastes time, forces the group to start the meeting over, and “screams, ‘I’m disorganized!’” about the perpetrator. Make sure to show up to meetings on time.

    2. Taking phone calls. Calling this the most obnoxious behavior on his list, Hyatt advises meeting members to courteously excuse themselves and step out of the meeting to answer a call, waiting until they are out the door to actually answer it.

    3. Checking e-mail. Similar to taking a phone call, this projects to the others in the meeting that you have something more important to do than pay attention. “Leave your laptop in your office unless you need it for a presentation...and resist the urge to pull out the Blackberry or iPhone every five minutes to check your messages.”

    4. Engaging in side conversation. Good meetings have only one conversation happening at a time; side conversations are distracting and can prevent the meeting leader from maintaining full control. “If you must follow-up with someone,” Hyatt says, “write yourself a note and do it after the meeting.”

    5. Not taking notes. This behavior says, “There’s nothing going on in this meeting worth remembering.”

    6. Talking too much. Make sure you’re allowing others to speak, and refrain from commenting on absolutely everything that’s said.

    7. Interrupting others. “The worst form of this is the person who randomly changes the subject,” says Hyatt. Wait until the person talking is finished before you interject.

    8. Not coming prepared. People notice when someone comes unprepared to a meeting. The meeting members expect you to contribute to it; “if you don’t, people assume you haven’t done your homework,” says Hyatt.

    9. Chasing rabbits. “The sooner you get through your agenda, the sooner you can get back to your office to get some real work done,” reminds Hyatt. “Stay focused! You can do it!”

    10. Not speaking up. Hyatt encourages leaders to “speak up or bow out.” Don’t just sit quietly throughout the whole meeting; offer something of use to others.

Hyatt says all these annoying meeting behaviors stem from a lack of respect for the others. “How much more productive could we make our meetings if we all showed one another respect and eliminated these behaviors?”

  • UFC Fan Expo

Last week I went to the UFC Fan Expo here in Las Vegas. The Expo is the largest gathering of Mixed Martial Arts Fans in the World. Over 100,000 fans attended this years event at the Mandalay Bay Resort.

As an avid fan I loved being in a place where you can see so many fighters up close and personal. I went with one of my great friends Mark Schick. We had a great 2 days walking the expo and seeing so many vendors and demonstrations.

The highlight was getting to hang out with my dear friend Wanderlei Silva. He is one of the elite fighters who also loves Jesus! I have the priviledge of being his Pastor and Spiritual Mentor. He shares his faith publicly and wants to use his platform for the Glory of God. He believes that God is calling us to reach the fighters with the message of Christ. In fact many people are calling me the MMA Pastor.

I am asking all of my friends to be in prayer for us as we prayerfully consider how to reach this mission field. I believe that Jesus loves the fans and the fighters and would want us to reach them for Him. I am open to your suggestions and thoughts.

  • Ribs and The Gospel

I am back in the office today after an amazing weekend in church. I have to admit that the time change did impact the attendance but not the Spirit of God moving in our midst. It was a special time in God as so many responded to the message of Christ this past week. In fact my team just informed that 83 people got right with God in our worship experiences! It never gets old to see people come to Christ.

Also, during the 8:30 experience I felt led to buy everyone Starbucks right after the experience. Little did I know that people would take me up on it! We packed out the Starbucks as the line was out the door and wrapped around the building. There was a buzz and excitement as people were blown away at what we were doing. Guests were saying they had never been to a church that gave them something and that they were coming back after receiving such generosity. Remember, generosity is not a bucket but a lifestyle.

Then during the 11:45 worship experience, I felt led to buy ribs for everyone who would come to Lucilles's BBQ restaurant following church. Before we left we saw 25 people come to Christ and then follow us to Lucilles. I did not know that hundreds of people would show up and over run Lucille's. The management was overwhelmed but worked with us. They could not believe that I was paying for everything for everyone. When I got the bill I could not believe I was paying for it either! Then a guy stepped up and said he felt God nudge him to split the cost with me and I said Praise God!

One thing I learned is that generosity shows God is at work in all of us. The New Testament Church was known as a generous church. Believe me we did not do this as a gimmick but rather as a response to God's prompting.

I want to thank my team who stepped up to a 'Whole Nutha Level' and pulled it off. I am excited to see what happens this week in church.

Check out some of the pics.

  • Levels of Leadership

As I began to think this morning I realized that there are Levels of Leadership. Each of us has been given a Level of Leadership in which we live our daily lives. As a Pastor I have been given a Level of Leadership that influences people's Spiritual Lives. It is a wonderful responsibility the Lord has so graciously given to me. I love what I do and what I have been called to do.

Yet I realize that with every level there are both benefits and challenges that one must learn to navigate. One of the challenges is that not everyone has the full information about a decision that had to be made. It is amazing how easily we can make a judgment on someone without having the full scope of information. Being a leader is a great honor that one must learn how to handle the inevitable questioning that comes.

The leaders main role is to hear from their team and then make a decision based upon all the information that is given at the time. Knowing that some decisions will be better than others. I know some incredible leaders that are helping me as God is taking me and The Church to new Levels of Leadership! Hearing from seasoned leaders and then spending time in Prayer and The Word is the best way to make Godly Decisions.

My prayer is that all of us continue to Seek the Lord and Wise Counsel as we move to New Levels of Leadership. I want to be a voice to help people not hinder them as they move into new areas of influence and responsibility.

  • The Gospel

It has been a while since my last post. I am recovering from the barrage of responses from people around the world. I did not know that using the term "Prosperity Gospel" would elicit such passionate responses from people regarding this subject.

I want to thank everybody for their view on this subject and to remind us all that we can have very passionate discussions and yet keep the unity of the Faith and not attack individual people. Alas I have found myself on the end of some very hurtful and untrue personal attacks. I would even go so far as to say blatant lies formulated to discredit the work of God here at The Church at South Las Vegas.

During this time I was reminded by the Lord that I don't have to fight my battles because the battle belongs to the Lord! I don't have a problem defending my Theological view point but I will not fight for my reputation  or respond to frivolous claims against me.

I do hope this blog will elicit deeper thought into the Sacred Scriptures and that we will continually search them diligently. Yet knowing that our Theological Beliefs will at times be different and that is okay. Look at how long we have been discussing Calvinism and Arminism and yet we can still love one another.

So to all my blog readers and friends blessing.

    Life of a Pastor,

    Benny Perez

  • What's Up with all the Prosperity Attacks!?

There's been a lot of talk about the Prosperity Gospel lately. We've got people attacking the message and some defending it. The Church at South Las Vegas believes that God wants to prosper people. Please don't get me wrong, prosperity does not replace Jesus or the gospel, but there is a clear principle in the Bible concerning giving. Here is a great sermon I preached two weeks ago regarding generosity and giving:

Also, our children's pastor, Justyn Smith has written a great response toward some of the criticism regarding the Prosperity Gospel:

So, I read these Twitters about people always knocking on the “Prosperity Gospel.” What’s up with that? Have leaders abused the Bible and Christianity to get people to give to them? Yes! Have there been some who have guilted people into giving? Yes! Let’s be clear, however, that it’s not the case with everyone who believes in the “Prosperity Gospel.”

For example, our church believes in the Prosperity Gospel. We believe that God wants to prosper people. To believe otherwise would mean that God wants us to not prosper. The Bible is very clear that God wants us bless us and that there is a gift of giving. When I hear reports, including in our own church, of people who give hundreds of thousands or millions to a church cause I don’t hear anti-prosperity people saying, “Oh no, we can’t except this because you believe in prosperity.” How in the world is the church to help nations like Haiti when they are not prospering? How can we call upon people to give thousands to stop human trafficking?

Here’s the deal. I absolutely believe God wants to prosper everyone. In fact, I pray someday I’ll have a nice house, new cars, send my kids to college and not have to worry about my future when I’m older. The issue is what are you doing with your prosperity? Are you hording it or are you giving it? And, it doesn’t mean that you can’t drive the newest Mercedes or live in—get ready for this—a multi-million dollar home. If Jesus didn’t believe in prosperity how did he support 12 disciples? Why did Jesus have what we would call today an accountant? He wasn’t poor and he wasn’t rubbing his money in faces either. Prosperity is good when you have a Kingdom of God mindset and reach out and help people.

Please, stop the prosperity attacks! If you have an issue with a certain individual or church—call them out (unless you’re chicken—oops! Did I just say that!?) Don’t paint a negative picture over my church and others like mine just because you believe we should all live in straw and mud huts and have no money to make a difference. Why don’t people pick on my heroes such as Andy Stanley, Bill Hybels, Rick Warren, Jack Hayford, etc. Something tells me that these guys are prospering (and I’m glad and I pray that God prospers them even more). People only pick on the Charismatic, Pentecostal types!

By the way, it’s because people believe in prosperity that our church is able to have the only Safe Houses in Las Vegas to help prostitutes turn their life around, feed and clothe 1,800 people every 14 days and literally see at least 30-50 people saved every weekend! –Thank you Jesus for prospering us!

  • Dr. Martin Luther King

Today is a special day in America and for the World as we celebrate the accomplishments of Dr. Martin Luther King. I thank the Lord for a Man of God that had the courage to step out of the confines of his day and to have a Dream. His Dream was not a Dream motivated by men but rather a Dream Motivated by God Himself!

For I believe God moved upon a man to create a movement for others to follow. A movement of equality for people regardless of their skin color. For we are all created in Likeness and Image of God. His Dream for equality of all people has not been fully realized but by the Grace of God it will continue to move closer.

I believe the Dream can be fulfilled as we The Body of Christ lead the way in breaking down racial segregation in our churches! It is said that Sunday Morning is still the most segregated time in America. I say that is changing and that in Las Vegas we want to continue to lead the way with a Mult-Cultural, Multi-Generational and Multi- Economic Church coming together to worship Jesus.

So today let us all take the time to thank the Lord for Dr. Martin Luther King and His accomplishments. Then let us continue to look to the Author and Finisher of Faith Jesus who is the ONE who has broken down every wall!

  • Kingdom First Pt. 4

It has been a few days since my last blog. We have started 21 days of Prayer and Fasting and it has taken more out of me than I thought it would. Spiritually I am doing wonderful, but physcially it has been a little bit of a challenge.

This morning I wanted to challenge every Christ Follower in their finances. I believe God is calling His Church to be more generous with their time, talent and yes even their finances. I am living in a city that has been decimated by the Recession. People have lost their jobs and homes. Many of our homes our worth less than what we owe on them. So many people have lost so much money.

However in the midst of the chaos and confusion God is still shining through His people. Many of us have chosen to do what Jesus said "Store up for yourselves treasures in heaven..." Jesus is letting us know that Eternal Treasures should be the priority in all of our lives. We should be giving to God's Kingdom to expand it here on the earth and to store up for ourselves treasures in heaven.

Jesus was letting us know that what we do for Him and His Kingdom will never go down in value, be stolen or go out of style. It is the only investment that will always go up and have an eternal impact.

Questions for all of us? What are you going to do for the Kingdom of God? How much are you willing to sacrifice for the Lord? I still believe all of us can do more and I pray the Lord leads and guides you to do more for Him.

For me and my family we are not only tithing but giving more to the Kingdom. We want to see more people impacted and changed by Jesus Christ. I hope this is all of our hearts as we Seek God's Kingdom First.

  • Kingdom First Pt. 3

Yesterday I spoke again in Matthew 6:33 where Jesus declares to "Seek First The Kingdom Of God and His Righteousness and ALL of these THINGS will be ADDED to YOU." Jesus in his peaching never condemned things, possession or money. Jesus knew that we needed to have provision and things in our lives.

Jesus main point was not to put your TRUST in things. That our whole heart and devotion must be to Him and Him alone. It is only after we get the right Priority of God First that things will be added to your life. Yet so many people still are going after things.

I pray this year that all of you Seek God First and watch as the things begin to be added to your life. You see nothing is more valuable that the Presence of Jesus in your life. Putting Him first in every area will result in incredbile blessings coming your way.

What are some ways that will help you Seek First The Kingdom of God? I would love to read some of your comments.

    Life of a Pastor,

    Benny Perez

  • Kingdom First Pt. 2

Jesus began to teach his disciples that they should not worry about life. He said in Matthew 6:25 "Do not worry about your life...is not life more than food and the body more than clothing?" We read this yet some many people worry about their life. We know that worry should not be part of a Christ Followers life.

Why is worry bad? Because it depletes you of any Hope, Energy or Joy. Worry is when you have too little faith in God's ability to take of you. What do you find yourself worrying about? I know that when I feel worry trying to control me I put my eyes back on my Heavenly Father.

Jesus said if God takes care of the birds and the flowers, He will take care of you. So today make it point to say no to worry and yes to the Father. He will take care of all your needs. Trust Him today.

  • Kingdom First Pt. 1

Jesus said in Matthew 6:33 to Seek First The Kingdom...and all of these other things will be added to you. It seems like a simple thing but so many of us begin seeking things first then the Kingdom.

What things do you find yourself seeking after. I know in my life that things can get my attention very easily. You know the things of work, getting ahead, finances and even good things like family and friends.

How about you, what are some of theTHINGS you find getting ahead of God? Take heart because in this New Series we are going to get the order right in our lives. And when we get the order right we live in right order!

  • Happy New Year

I am back in the office and ready for a Great New Year. I hope all of you enjoyed a relaxing time with family and friends. I was out for about 8 days visiting my wife's family in Seattle. We had a fun time in the mountains watching the kids play in the snow. My kids especially loved it since we don't much snow in the desert.

While on vacation I believe God spoke to me about a simple principle called "Kingdom First." That when we choose to Seek God's Kingdom First all the other things will be added to us. This is the year for us to get things in the right order!

So for the next few weeks I will be blogging on my Kingdom First Series. I would encourage you to download the Podcasts from Itunes to stay up with what God is speaking to us here in Las Vegas.

Let all your friends know that I will be blogging regularly now and that they can get it on their Iphone or Itouch with our new app from Itunes.

  • Merry Christmas Las Vegas

We recently had another Store Event where we blessed community. I wanted to share with you one the many emails we received from people blessed by the event:

Good evening Pastor Benny, I just wanted to thank you because I have been watching your services on-line for the past few months. I've heard about your store you have every other weekend. I took my Dad today so he can gather a few necessities. As I stood in line there was a family behind me and were asking me questions regarding the church. I knew enough from attending the on line services. They were so grateful to your ministry for what you are doing in the community. I didn't get their names but they were from CA. One of them lived here somewhere on Pecos & Tropicana. I can't stress how important and how much help you are providing to many people. My reason for being their was for my Dad. He is a senior and doesn't have much money for some simple poly grip. When we started the line, the first thing they gave him was sandwich bags, he was very happy for that. However, once we stepped over to the next table and they handed him that Polygrip and Fixadent and cleaning solutions for his dentures, he was sooooo happy. I didn't know this because he hadn't mentioned it to me but He had ran out of his denture stuff and could not believe this was being handed to him for free. When we got to the car he was crying all the way home because now he didn't have to spend his money on his simple necessities. Thank You, Thank You Thank You Pastor Benny for being so nice to my DAD. I love him with all my heart and I just pray I can be of more help to him. You came through for him. I love you from the bottom of my heart.

Thank you Church for being Generous

  • A Night of Hope

Yesterday I had the opportunity of being with Joel Osteen and other Pastors from Southern California. We gathered to hear the vision that Joel has in bringing a Night of Hope to Dodger Stadium. As we listened to Joel I could not help but think about 50,000 people hearing the message of Hope found in Jesus Christ.

Joel showed who he really is as he cried over the vision God has given to him. He expressed his gratitude towards all of the Pastors who were there to support him. In fact he had just come back from meeting with President Obama who watches his show every week. Imagine meeting with the President and then with Pastors and treating all the same way. This is the heart of Joel Osteen.

    Some things I learned:

    1. Grace is really Grace! God does things for us that we don't earn or deserve.

    2. Learn to be and accept yourself. Joel said he just is being himself.

    3. Believe God for Big Things and then let the Lord open the doors.

    4. Connect with likeminded people who believe in the vision.

    5. Help others and God will help you.

Count me in with reaching more people.

    Life of a Pastor,

    Benny Perez

  • The Church Gives Back | The Store

Following the encouraging coverage by Fox 5 News, we were further encouraged to continue this outreach in the valley by corporations such as Costco and Sam's Club with gift cards to their stores. Also, Trader Joe's has faithfully provided bags for us to use when handing out food. Other individuals and companies who saw the story and were moved by it continue to contact us.

Thank you Costco, Sam's Club and Trader Joe's for giving back to the community you serve. We wanted people to know of your generosity.

Thank you Fox 5 News for touching hearts through the media. In the midst of gloom and despair, you are a beacon of hope.

  • In The Woods

I want to write a brief note on what is happening in Tiger Wood's life. I would ask the church and Christ followers to pray for him and his family. Let us not be so quick to judge and throw stones at a man who desperately needs the love of Jesus and grace to come into his life.

My prayer is that God would have someone speak to and minister to him during this time. I am reminded that except it be for the Grace of God in my life, where would I be. This is the time for us to be Christian in response and actions.

I want to be clear that what he has done is wrong by his own admission, but we have to be able to respond rightly to a wrong situation. I pray Holy Spirit activity in all of our lives as well as Tiger Wood's life!

  • 5 Speakers One Weekend

This past weekend I had 5 of my Pastors preach the weekend experiences. I decided to take some much needed time with my wife, kids, mom and dad. I knew that it would be great weekend for the staff to speak. I gave the text to speak out of and the time frame they had to speak.

The result was 5 fantastic messages that touched the hearts of thousands of people. Each one had their unique insights and applications. I believe the Holy Spirit led each one for each specific worship experience.

I believe that as we allow our staff to speak to the church as whole, the whole church gets ministered to in unique ways. I would encourage Lead Pastors to allow the staff to speak on certain weekends. Don't always bring in a guest speaker, allow the staff to speak and hear from the Lord from the text you give them.

One thing is for sure that you will also get blessed and get some great thoughts for future messages. The time off will help you get perspective and come back the following week rested and ready.

  • Delivering The Blessing

This morning I went to give the $10,000 blessing to Pastor Vance Pitman of Hope Baptist Church. I was excited to bless this great church as they are growing and getting ready to build a building. They have 1.5 million in a building campaign but cannot use it for the general fund and because of this we wanted to help them and bless them as we have been blessed.

Vance received the gift with gladness and thanked us for being Kingdom minded. He thanked our people via video and was so moved by our generosity. Their church has blessed so many churches in our valley and now it was time for them to be blessed.

I am reminded from the scripture that it really is more blessed to give than to receive! This is going to be a great week in Jesus. Thank you Church at South Las Vegas for giving and blessing another church. You are the best!

    Life of a Pastor,

    Benny Perez

  • Kingdom Minded

This weekend was monumental in the life of The Church at South Las Vegas. I saw the heart of the greatest people in Las Vegas. I told our church about another church in our city that is hurting financially. In fact, they have had to lay off staff and the Pastor had a heart to heart talk with his church about their situation. This church is literally week to week in their general giving, even though they have money in their building fund.

This church is one of the most influential and Jesus loving churches in Las Vegas. After hearing his talk via email, I knew we had to do something to help. Since we are the body of Christ and should have love for not only Jesus but other churches we decided to do something radical. As a church we prayed for the other church  and took up anoffering for them. We took in nearly $9,000 dollars and are thrilled to present it to them.

People asked me why did I do this? Because Jesus prompted me too! It also keeps me Kingdom Minded and not just thinking about my thing. I do know God loves it when His people are Generous!

  • Holy Spirit And Church

Well we have done it. We have stepped into our new series, Supernatural. I have told some of my friends and they are wondering how far I am willing to go in this series. My question to them is what do you mean?

After some discussion, they are wondering about the Holy Spirit and having supernatural manifestations of the Holy Spirit. Being a charismatic church and wanting for God to move supernaturally is not ever a question. However, how and to what degree is the Holy Spirit going to move. So many churches are struggling with this question of the Holy Spirit and what is appropriate and not appropriate in a weekend service.

There have been extremes on both sides. Some are having occurrences almost every week and if one does not occur than God did not move. Others have no occurrences and like it that way. I am not opting for either, I want both/and. Yet to live in this tension is not always easy nor is it taught. I choose to look at the New Testament where they had both happening.

I would like your take on this. Please leave a response whether you are a pastor, leader or attender of a church.

Decided to write a new post. This weekend we start a new series called Supernatural. It is going to be an eye opening series as we deal with the unseen world of the Supernatural. I believe as a church we need to have our eyes opened and to be informed as to what the Bible says about the Supernatural.

We will be talking about Angels, Demons, UFO's, Paranormal Activity. The Holy Ghost and the 9 Gifts of the Holy Ghost. I will be sharing personal encounters with the Supernatural. This is the best time to invite friends and family. If you are not in Vegas make sure you watch at our online campus at www.thechurchlv.com.

Spread the Word all over that the Supernatural is going to be talked about and experienced at The Church at South Las Vegas.

  • Making It Clear

In response to my last blog I want to make some things clear. Not all churches will be the same in culture and even in their vision. For the most part churches take on the characteristic of the leadership.

So knowing all leaders are not the same very simply means not all churches will be the same. Some will be more contemporary while other may be more traditional. One is not necessarily better than the other, it just means they are different.

But let Me Make It Clear: All Churches should be about reaching, winning and discipling more people to Jesus Christ. The commandment is clear to go out and make disciples of all nations. Jesus look at for the fields are ripe unto harvest. Today is the day for us to reach more people.

I will be talking about this more at our Fall Church Conference October 11th - 14th. It is a free conference open to everyone. We will be having special sessions in the morning for all Pastors and Leaders. I want to impart into your lives and help you become even more effective for the Kingdom.

    Expanding God's Kingdom,

  • What Kind of Church Are You

I have gotten the question over and over again "What Kind Of A Church Are You?" Anytime I tell people I am Pastor of a church in LasVegas they ask me the same question. I now find myself asking the same question to myself.

So many leaders label themselves as Seek Sensitive or Holy Ghost Fire Church. Why do we have to be one or the other. You see I believe when we look at the Life of Jesus he was not either/or He was both/and. We need churches that are Sensitive to the people coming but also know what the Holy Spirit wants to do in a service.

We at The Church at South Las Vegas are into both/and not either/or. We are a Charasmatic Contemporary Church that Loves people and want the Holy Spirit to move in powerful ways. Someone recently told me that we are building a new model of doing church. I don't know about a new model maybe just looking at the Life of Jesus and modeling our life and church after Him.

Don't know if this makes sense but just really feel it is time to talk about it.

  • Leadership Lessons From The Valley Pt. 2

Today I want to continue my observations of David in the Valley fighting Goliath. David teaches us that we need to stay focused on our One True Source: Jesus. David when confronting his giant did not list his 5 smooth stones and sling as the weapon that was going to bring victory.

Rather David looked to his True Source: The Lord God Almighty. The lesson is clear that we cannot look to our natural abilities or resources for our help. We need to focus in on Jesus and the Power He Gives Us To Overcome our challenges.

So today look to your True Source of Power. He will give you all you need to overcome any challenge.

  • Leadership Lessons From The Valley

David learned a big lesson when he faced Goliath. When you are facing adversity, turn your face to the one who has overcome all adversity: Jesus.

When David went down into the Valley he heard Goliath taunt him and intimidate him. David did not respond like the rest of the men who ran in fear. Rather David shows us a valuable lesson turn your focus to Jesus who has already overcome all adversity.

David said to Goliath "You come to me with a sword and spear but I come to you in the NAME OF THE LORD OF HOSTS!" David turned his focus to the source of his overcoming Goliath and that source is the Lord.

So whatever you are facing today remember to turn your face towards the one who has overcome all adversity: Jesus.

  • Bella Is Born Again

Well last night I had the opportunity and privilege to lead my 5 year old daughter to the Lord. It was bed time and after telling the story of Harry the Hiker (I made up the story) I asked Bella if she had every accepted Jesus into her heart. She looked at me and said no. Then I asked if she would like to and she say YES! We prayed a prayer asking Jesus into her heart and she prayed with all the faith she could and asked the Lord into her heart.

It was one of the best moments of my life! I began to think how important it is for us to ask the simple questions to those that we love. You see I believe Bella just needed me to ask question, because the Holy Spirit was working on her little heart.

So today don't be afraid to ask those you love a simple question: Do you have Jesus in your heart?

  • Dont' Be Afraid Of The Valley

I just finished coming back from preaching at The City Church in Seattle. I would encourage people to continue praying for my Father-n-Law Wendell Smith. As many know he is fighting the good fight of faith as he battles cancer.

As I was speaking in the second service, the Lord gave me a Rhema that we cannot be afraid of the valleys, because valleys are where great men and women of God are made. It is in the valleys, where we see great leadership exhibited. It is the valleys, where we see the anointing of God being released from our lives to accomplish great things.

Young David found himself going down into the valley of Elah in 1st Samuel 17 to fight a giant named Goliath. All of the Armies of Israel were positioned on the top of the hills and ran in fear when they heard the taunts of Goliath in the Valley. However, there was one who knew that the Lord was not only the God of the hilltops but the God of the Valleys. David went down into the valley knowing he would have to look up to the Lord. We know that the Lord gave him the victory even in the valley.

This week we will look into the Lord of the valley and see how we can have victory in our present valley experiences.

  • Acts 2 Happens In Church

This past weekend we had an incredible encounter with Jesus. The power of the Holy Spirit was evident beginning on our Saturday night as hundreds were touched and laid out under the Power of God.

On Sunday, all the services were filled with such a strong sense of God. Then at the 11:45am service all heaven broke out. During the worship time I felt led by the Holy Spirit to get up and exhort the people to press in. The place was packed with expectant, hungry people for God's presence. I began to move in words of knowledge and people began to come forward and get HEALED! Faith began to increase and then people started coming forward to get saved and to rededicate their lives to Jesus.

Then I felt led to ask if someone had financial needs in the church. Someone raised their hand and I gave them 100 dollars. Then another raised their hands and I gave them some money. I ran out of my money, but then somebody came up and gave me money to give away. People started coming up and giving me so much money to give away and thousands of dollars were given to me so I kept on giving to people in need. We gave to all the single moms and dads! We then gave to those that need money for food, gas and necessities. It was the greatest show of generosity I have ever seen in a church service. Acts 2:44 came to mind as the Bible says "And all the believers met together in one place and shared everything they had."

I left church believing that the book of Acts is not an historic event but a present day reality. The buzz is still going on as word is spreading at what God did on Sunday. I pray that it wil not stop but continue beyond our church services and into our lifestyles.

  • Do Something Today

I want to challenge all of my thousands of readers to do something today. In other words let your Faith be seen in some way. Step out and do a random act of kindness. Send a text message or email to encourage someone. Let the Good News of Jesus out of you today.

You can make a difference in the life of someone today. Ask the Holy Spirit to open up your eyes to see what He wants you to see. Get ready to act when He prompts you to do something. Don't worry how little it may seem to you, it may be big to somebody else!

    James 2:26

So get out and DO SOMETHING TODAY!

  • Faith Without Works Is Dead

We are studying the Book of James verse by verse. It is one of the most practical books in the Bible and shows us that real Faith results in our lifestyle being impacted. Today I read the portion in James 2:17 "Thus, also faith by itself, if it does not have works is dead."

I began to think about my life and my profession of Faith in Jesus Christ. Does my profession work its way out in demonstration? The world's greatest need is not for more Christianity but for Christ Followers to begin to walk out what they say. The world around us is looking for the Real Life Application of Jesus in every day life.

I have heard so many people talk about all the hypocrites in church. How so many of us proclaim one thing and yet seemingly are not impacted by Jesus in our lives. My prayer is that Jesus is not just someone I accepted years ago into my life but is someone I speak with everyday of my life. My prayer for all of us is that we rely on Jesus more and more. Knowing we cannot do live our Faith in our own power but in the power of the Risen Savior Jesus Christ.

So today lets live out our faith through Jesus Christ

  • What Makes You Tick?

Well I am finally back after having quite of bit of time off. I realized that even Benny Perez needs to take some vacation time to refresh and regroup. It is interesting that when I was on vacation I began to think about this one question "What Really Makes Me Tick?"

In other words what is the one thing that really gets me going. What is the one thing that really gets my Passion flowing and my creativity going? You see when you find out what makes you tick you begin to find what you are called to do. Too many of us are doing things that Tick Us Off but dont Make Us Tick. What has God called you to do that nobody else can do? What is it in your family, church, business or staff position that you can do that nobody else can really do?

When you find the answer to this you will find your self keeping ahead of things rather than getting ticked off at things.

  • Joy Come In The Morning

I am sorry for not posting my blog for the last several days. It has been a whirlwind of activity since the death of Danny Gans. The Church at South Las Vegas has responded in a great way with prayers and support for the family. They so appreciate more than anything else the prayers of all the Christ Followers.

The scripture found in Psalm 30:5 states that weeping may endure for a night but joy comes in the morning really speaks to me. Seeing families go through loss is something that one must endure. It is never easy to lose anyone but a close family member is such a tragic loss for us but an addition to heaven. It is during the times of enduring that we can count on the Joy that will eventually come in the morning.

Joy will eventually come out of the mourning as we keep our eyes on the one who gives us the joy and his name is JESUS. Jesus is the one who is the lifter of our soul when we don't know what to do. As we focus our loss on Jesus and cry out to him and allow ourselves to go through the valley of death is when we will come out on the other side with Joy.

So it may be night time for some of us but the Son will rise soon in our lives to chase the darkness away with His incredible light.

  • The Loss Of Danny Gans

    Danny Gans (1956-2009)

We mourn the loss of one of our church family, Danny Gans who went to be with Jesus early this morning. We are shocked at the tragic, sudden loss of a great husband, father and entertainer. I ask that all of our church family pray for Danny's family during this most tragic time. We know that God is the one that can bring comfort to his family and friends.

  • Life Is An Adventure

Today I got up to get ready to come to the office. As I was getting out of the shower a little face appeared pressed up against the glass shower door. It was my 20 month old son Benaiah peering through the glass.

As I got out he just stared at me as I was preparing for my day. At times like these I often wonder what is going through his little mind. I know what was going through my mind, all the stuff that had to be done. But his mind had other things in mind. You see his mind is thinking about all the new things he will explore today. What new things will he learn about the backyard that he did not learn the day before. What tree will he try to climb or what new bug will he try to catch. You see for a 20 month old Life Is An Adventure!

As I pondered my son I began to look at my life and wonder why I don't think life to be an Adventure? Why do I settle for the routine and the safety of knowing all that is going to happen? I want to discover something new and fresh in my day.

My prayer today is: Lord I want to see something new, experience something new and learn something new. Thank you Jesus for a New Day filled with New Opportunities.

  • Don't Forget What God Has Done

I have found myself in the last few days asking God for all the new things that I believe we need to have for our church. I am asking for another building and for another campus and getting ready to step out in faith.

Then the though occurred to me: Spend some time Thanking God for what He has already done in my life. Before I move so quickly into the future, I need to remember what He has done and Thank Jesus for everything in my life that He has given me. Sometimes we are so quick to keep moving on that we forget to say Thank You in the Now.

Stop right now and begin to Thank the Lord for specific things He has done in your life. Don't be too quck to move forward until you have Thanked Him for the Present, knowing He has your future secure.

  • Slow Down For God

Today I found myself rushing to the office to start on my sermon for this weekend. As I sat at my computer studying and putting together an outline, the Holy Spirit came upon me. I began to sense the need to stop rushing and begin to pray.

As I prayed I could not stay in my seat and found myself on my knees before the Lord. I just slowed down and began to thank Jesus for all that He has done and is doing in my life. I found the tears beginning to roll down my face for all that the Lord has done. He has brought me through more things than I could ever tell. God is Good and I Love Him So Much.

Can I encourage you to Slow Down and take some time for Jesus. Believe me you will not waste a minute spending time with Jesus.

  • Count It All Joy

Today I was reading James 1 in my time this moring with the Lord. I was sitting and praying and then I picked up the Bible and read James 1:2 - 3 "...Count it all Joy when you fall into various trials, knowing the testing of your faith produces patience."

I began to ask myself it I really do count it joy when the trials come my way. I often find myself praying that God would get me out of the trials. In fact I will go so far as to say that I seldom count it joy when I am in a trial. I guess I am an American who does not like trials and tribulations. In fact I guess I am human, because human nature does not like when things get a little hard.

Yet James says we can count it all Joy when tough times come. Why? Because it is a testing of the faith God has placed inside of us. The Joy is not in the circumstances but that our Faith actually becomes stronger and that we will see how the Lord will bring us through.

So today if you are going through a tough time: Count It All Joy!

  • Guest Blog: Justyn Smith

Today I'm at Knott's Berry Farm with my family. When we arrived at the Embassy Suites last night we checked in at the front desk, recieved our keys and off we went. However, when we got to our room both keys did not work. We went back downstairs to get two new keys AND they did not work. It's now about 10:15pm and we have four children seven and younger, which includes a four-month-old and we're all sleepy (and getting a little cranky). Finally, they send someone up to get us into our room. Very nice room, however they didn't have a crib in the room as requested and promised by the hotel. We had to ask for them to send one up. They sent it up without any linens, etc.

Normally, I would blog about and talk about how we need to be leaders/people who serve others with excellence and do our best to not overlook the small things. Not today! As everything was going on I was thinking about what I can learn from this and instead of focusing on the hotel I started focusing on my attitude--me! I know they should've been more on top of things than what they were, but the fact is they weren't. I could've gone downstairs from the fifth floor and complained to the manager about their service, but you know what...we're all human...we all make mistakes. I felt God kept asking me "What if you were in their position? Would you want some mean skinny boy talking down at you?" Ouch! No, I wouldn't.

Today, try putting yourself in other people's shoes. Life isn't always about us. When they finally sent someone up to put sheets on our baby's crib, which was about 10:45pm I just gave the woman a big smile and thanked her for all she did. Love on people today!

  • God Gives The Increase

The Bible says that some sow, others water, but God Gives The Increase! I want to give God the Glory again for what He did this Easter Weekend. You see many people will question why we talk about numbers. Well again Numbers represent people and people matter to God.

In fact our team here at The Church understand that people matter. A great example was this past weekend. We had already finished our last of 5 services. It was a packed out 11:45 service with many coming to Christ. At the end of the service I was informed that there were 40 to 50 people waiting for a 1:15 service. I looked at my team and said lets do another service. So we started an impromptu service with 20 people looking at me and others in the lobby. It did not matter, the worship team led the best worship they did all weekend and then I preached as if 1,000 people were in front of me. The best part of the service is when 5 people raised their hands to surrender to Jesus! What a glorious time it was for all of us.

We again saw that God gives the increase! God is the one who touches the human heart and causes it to repent and come into Salvation. I left the last service exhausted but rejoicing as God brought the increase of Salvations!

  • The Day After

What an incredible Easter Weekend. We had over 5200 people in attendance with 413 Salvations! God was so gracious to us! We were believing for 5,000 and God honored our faith. We were also believing for 500 saved and we saw 413 come to Christ.

Overall the whole team was just in shock to see what the Lord did through us. Don't forget this is in Vegas! Yet God loves Las Vegas and is using The Church at South Las Vegas to touch thousands of people. I am so honored to serve in the Las Vegas Valley and to know that greater things are coming.

To all that read this blog I say keep on praying and believing for Las Vegas and for The Church. I will add to this tomorrow with more stats and testimonies.

  • Good Friday

Today we celebrate the Crucifixion of Jesus Christ. It was a brutal, horrible death that we cannot even imagine. He laid down His life for us so that we could live. I hope and pray that all of us would take the time to read the account in the Word of God today. Take the time to meditate and to think of the great price that was paid for you and me.

We may call it Good Friday but it was a horrific Friday for Jesus The Son of God.

  • Don't Quit

This was a great blog I wanted to share with you all: Benny Perez Life of a Pastor

    Quit Today, Lose Out Tomorrow!

I saw a news story recently about a sixteen year old girl from Michigan who got struck by lightning on one day, and won the lottery the next day. Some could say that she had really bad luck (getting struck by lightning) or really good luck (living through it). I doubt that she would be really excited about getting struck again, or going to the emergency room again for that matter. But the very next day, her life got better… she won a small prize in the state lottery. As a matter of fact, she bought the lottery ticket the night of the lightning strike!

Ever have something really bad happen in your life, only to have something really good happen shortly thereafter as a result of it?

I see it all the time.

Like when a friend of mine lost his job recently.  Bad thing.  Then, he found another job a couple months before his severance package was finished.  All of a sudden, he had a brand new opportunity (AND a couple of months extra salary!)

Recently, my church was looking to hire for a new position.  We were all ready for the final interview with someone we thought God wanted to bring our way.  The only thing is… the day before the interview, the applicant called and canceled, saying he felt called in a different direction.  That was depressing…. UNTIL we interviewed someone else last week that appears to be an even better fit than the first guy!

And how many of you, after having been raked over the coals by a big critic on Sunday, got to see the fruit of a new person accepting Christ on Wednesday?

As a church leader, there is always temptation to quit.  And maybe, for you today, that urge is quite strong.  But always remember the new person accepting Christ, the better fit for God’s plan, the extra month’s salary, and the winning lottery ticket.  Because, quite simply… if you quit today, you very well may miss out on the payoff tomorrow!

    Have a great week!

  • Do It Right The First Time

We are getting some things done at our house and I found out that doing it right the first time is better than doing it over. One of the lessons I am learning is to make sure you plan things out in advance and not just hope it all comes together.

I remember one wise man telling me that new construction is always easier than reconstruction. It is always more difficult to go back and fix something rather than doing it right the first time.

What things have you started and then later had to re-do? How frustrated were you? How much extra time did it take you to do it over? Remember these lessons and learn from them. Life will be less stressful and more enjoyable when you do things right the first time.

  • Customer Service

As I was running errands I came to the conclusion that customer service makes all the difference. Treat people the way you want to be treated. Make it a priority to make someones day a little better after they meet you.

Lets be Jesus to somebody today! No, not by preaching but living His way in a crazy world.

  • Approval

I had the opportunity of interviewing Terry Fator who is the best ventriloquist in the World. He won America's Got Talent and then signed a major deal with the Mirage here in Las Vegas. One of the things that stood out to me was when he said that he stopped living for the approval of his earthly father because he has gotten approval from His HEAVENLY FATHER.

That one simple truth changed Terry's life and can change your life also. Because of what Jesus has done we now have the approval of our HEAVENLY FATHER!. No more striving to feel accepted because you are already ACCEPTED BY THE SHED BLOOD OF JESUS.

So next time you feel the approval trap coming just stop and thank your Father in Heaven that you are loved and accepted.

  • Training Like A Champion

Yesterday I had the opportunity of going and seeing Wanderlei Silva at his gym. Silva is the former Pride World Champion and one of the elite UFC fighters. As I walked into his gym I realized how serious these guys really train. They are training to be the best in the world.

I could not help but think about the Apostle Paul when he said in I Corinthians 9:25 "And everyone who competes for the prize is temperate in all things. Now they do it  to obtain a perishable crown but we for an imperishable crown." Fighting in the UFC is exciting and getting the belt is an accomplishment. But it will all eventually fade off when eternity begins.

I want to encourage all of us to live and train for the Imperishable Crown. We have been given a purpose found in Jesus Christ. So whether you are a Fighter, Pastor, Doctor or Teacher use it for God's Glory. What we do for the Lord will last for Eternity.

Lets trains as Champions and win big for Jesus.

  • Back Blogging Again

I took a short time off of my blog. I am back again and I am excited to share with you what is on my mind. Today. I am still buzzing from the weekend as God moved so powerfully in our services! I am in awe of how God continues to do things that blow  our minds.

In our 11:45 service the place was packed and the Presence of God was so strong. I preached my 3rd series on Reset and then proceeded to make an altar call. I gave one call and few hands went up but then I felt the Holy Spirit wanted to do more. Everything in me wanted to end the service because I thought it was going too late. But I decided to take a risk and keep asking people who wanted Jesus to raise their hands. I was amazed that hands kept going up. First it was 10,15,22,29,37 hands were raised. Wow I was so overwhelmed at what the Holy Spirit had done.

As I think about the weekend I am brought back to one thought: Risk. We as leaders and people need to take Risks. If I would have decided to play it safe I would ended the service with only 22 hands being raised. I fought through all the stuff in my head and decided to take the risk and go a little longer as I felt the Holy Spirit was still moving.

My conclusion: Be Holy Spirit Risk Takers! When you feel God prompting you don't let your mind or emotions get in the way. Go with God and you will see incredible results.

  • Time To Rejoice

So many times as a Pastor I am looking at what we can do to improve  and reach more people. It is not a bad thing but sometimes it can divert us from Taking The Time To Rejoice over all that is succeeding. I have decided today to think about all that is good and is working.

So for us here in Las Vegas seeing 40 + people get right with God, Presence of God in Worship, Services filling up with Regulars and Guests and financially God is blessing. We had one of the best weekends in our church. These are the weekends when you feel as if Heaven and Earth kissed and you were in the middle of it!

So today take Time to Rejoice in all the things that are going right.

  • NIghtline

Last night The Church at South Las Vegas was featured on Nightline. We have partnered with Hooker For Jesus in reaching out to the prostitutes of the Las Vegas valley. It was a very powerful and positive story of How Jesus is changing the lives of women caught in the sex industry.

If you did not see it you can watch it online. It aired on Thursday night, March 12 at 11:30 pm. I would love it if you emailed Nightline and let them know how much you liked the feature and ask that they do more of these kind of stories.

We pray blessing on Nightline and those working with the show.

  • Encouraging Leaders

I am flying up to Seattle, Washington today. I will speaking at Casey Treats Vision Conference. This is one of the most encouraging and faith- filled conferences in the country. I actually attended my first Vision Conference back in 1988 and was forever changed by the Lord through all the speakers.

I am going to encourage and build up leaders and young people. It is such an honor to be able to be used by God to build up his people. The Lord has given my a word of RISE UP! It is time for young people to RISE UP in influence and authority. This generation is not a wasted generation but a chosen generation. Get ready because the prophetic word is coming from the Lord that is going to make you RISE UP.

Today live your life in the power of the risen Christ. You are not made to live life laying down you were meant to live life RISEN UP!

  • Loyalty - A Trait Of Eagle Leadership

This is my last post on Eagle Leadership. We have been talking about people who rise to be eagles and leave the turkey mentality behind. Today I want to point out one of the most crucial elements of being an Eagle Leader is Loyalty!

People who are Eagles DISPLAY LOYALTY! If you are leader who is leading a church or organization you must ask the question: Who Is Trustworthy? Who are the people who will stick with you and the team during tough times. These are the people who have loyalty to the leader and the God given vision. Eagle leaders bring you strength in the midst of the battle. They are your armor bearers and stand with you in battle. They will fight to the end and believe in you and the vision God has given you.

Remember that loyalty does not make a leader, but disloyalty prevents a person from becoming one.

    Life of a Pastor,

    Benny Perez

  • Eagle Leadership

We are on a journey to discover what makes Leaders Eagles as opposed to Turkeys. Eagles are people who LIVE UP TO THEIR COMMITMENTS! These are the people who take ownership of their jobs and RARELY have to be CHECKED up on. They are the ones in church or organizations that are self motivated and self sustaining.

These people come don't need much guidance and understand what it takes to get the job done. Eagles are not only committed to their responsibilities but they are also committed to the VISION and MISSION of the organization, and they show it by their WILLINGNESS to complete tasks outside their area of responsibility.

I personally love working wth Eagles. They fly high and are able to see the bigger picture. They are people who see the possibilities and take on new challenges. I want to encourage everybody to rise above like an Eagle and Live Up To Your Commitments.

  • Guest Blog: Pastor Justyn Smith - NASCAR Leadership

What I love about NASCAR racing (or any race for that matter) is that you never have the perfect car before race day. Each race team does the best they can with what they have. Before race day they take the car on the track for practice and constantly go between the garage and the racetrack tweaking the car hoping for the best results. The only way to measure their success is after the race.

I love the fact that they “just do it” (Where have we heard that slogan before?). The race teams can’t afford to wait until the car is just “perfect” because if they were to do that they would never get their car on the track. The “perfect” race car is impossible to have. They prepare the best they can, but then the time comes when you can no longer prepare—it’s race day! We’re always coming up with great ideas at our church and in our kids ministry, however if we’re not careful we find ourselves in the garage and the practice track never putting our ideas on the racetrack because we’re afraid it’s not perfect—it’s not the best. God isn’t necessarily looking for the best—He’s looking for people to take action.

The cool thing about racing is that during the race, drivers (you) and crew chiefs (Holy Spirit) are always improving the car (idea). They do this by having pit stops (prayer and strategy sessions). This is when the car is refueled, tires changed and more car tweaking is done. They don’t stay there though—they get right back in the race. So, let’s say your idea isn’t going quite as well as you thought. That’s fine. Take your idea in for a “pit stop.” Find ways to improve it and get it right back out there. Tweak things as you go. The main thing is that at least you are doing something and not just parked in the garage.

  • More Ideas On Eagles

We are in a discussion on eagle leadership. What makes some people eagles while others are turkeys? The challenge is to find the eagles and let them fly and soar to accomplish great things in an organization.

One of the characteristics of eagles is that they PROVIDE IDEAS THAT HELP THE ORGANIZATION. Ideas in an organization is the fertilizer of the seeds of greatness. Ideas, our seeds, that are planted and begin to grow within an organization. Not all ideas help an organization! Eagles provide ideas that help and inspire an organization. You will be tomorrow, where the thoughts of people take you.

The question all leaders must ask themselves is "Who is able to mentally sustain our vision if I were to quit thinking for a month?" The thinking individuals are the eagles in the organization.

So today be an eagle and let the Lord give you some God ideas to help your church or organization.

  • More Eagle Talk

We have started on listing some of the qualities of eagles. These are the people in your church or organization that rise above average and normal. These are people who rise above the storms and challenges of life. Here are more characteristics of eagles:

Eagles influence others! They have the ability to directly or indirectly influence others in a positive way. Even though some Eagles are not in a position of leadership, they are often the ones that others look to for advice and suggestions for improvement. Eagles are often spotted when important decisions are being made, because they are the ones Explaining what needs to be done.

Also Eagles Add Value To You! Every relationship in church or organizations will effect you one way or the other. You must remember those who do not Increase you will inevitably decrease you. Eagles are the ones who readily share the vision and complement organizational efforts. Ealges make the vision a personal vision and help make it a reality.

  • Eagles Are

As we continue our discussion on Eagles we will look at some of the characteristics of Eagles. It is important to know what makes Eagles different from Turkeys.

First Eagles have a Make It Happen attitude. These kind of people see obstacles as opportunities to overcome. I like what Dr. Chand says "Eagles make themselves valuable because they seize opportunities to better the organization regardless of the nature or size of the task."  This can do attitude represents who Eagles are  and represents the organization well.  I love Eagles because when you hand them the ball you know they are going to score.

One of the Greatest needs in churches and organzations is to spot the Eagles that are in their midst. Eagles are not the easiest to spot in the wild and sometimes they are not easy to spot in churches. But take heart because Eagles are in church and organizations. I pray that the Lord will open up our eyes to see the people who are Eagles!

    Life of a Pastor,

  • Are You A Turkey Or Eagle?

We just had Dr. Chand come to our church and do a leadership night with our Ministry Partners. It was a wonderful night with hundreds of people being impacted with Leadership Principles. As I sat their last night I began to think about how many people really need to hear what is being taught. So I have decided to give some of my insights on being a Leader who is an Eagle not a Turkey.

One of the first things to know is that Turkeys travel in packs. They are more common and more accessible than Eagles. They are not on any endangered species list and are good for only one thing: Thansksgiving. Turkeys are always gobbling and seemingly have something to say. Nobody builds a great organization on Turkeys and nobody wants to hire a Turkey.

So in the next few days I will continue to update what makes Eagle Leaders so special and why we need to build our churches and organizations on Eagles.

  • Proud Of My Team

For those that read this blog I want to take this opportunity to say how proud I am of my team. I know every Pastor thinks they have a great team of pastors and staff, but we really do have a great team at The Church at South Las Vegas. They have responded well to all the changes and are uncluttering their work areas and their lives.

As a team they want to be more productive and reach more people for Christ. They understand that they don't have a job, they are fulfilling a calling! Each and everyone one, from the Holy Ghost receptionist to the joy-filled assistants, the fun financial and data entry people, the top-notch facility managers are living out their calling and mission.

They are like Isaiah who heard the Lord say "Whom shall I send?," and have said here we are Lord send us. So today I salute a team who is under the service of one: Jesus.

  • Increasing Productivity

As a Lead Pastor of a fast growing church, I am always looking for ways to increase productivity. I believe that all of us can be more productive with our time and resources. One of the drains of productivity is clutter and chaos. I heard one person say that simple is in and I agree. I am on a rampage to de-clutter our church offices, my home office and my life.

Can I give you a good suggestion? Quit looking at the clutter and just get rid of it! Throw things out, give things away and feel the freedom, Hallelujah! Somebody give me an Amen!

It has been proven that you can do more with less. That you having an uncluttered mind and message is the way to getting more done. Don't clutter your life, church, family with things that need to go.

Out with the old and in the with the new! If you attend The Church at South Las Vegas you will begin to see less clutter and more productivity.

  • Be Grateful

Today is Presidents Day and I am grateful that I live in this great country called America. So for those who have the day off like I do: Be Grateful. I am grateful for the day off, for a great wife, kids, family, friends and a church.

We had an awesome weekend with many coming to Christ and the presence of God filling the services. I am grateful I woke up this morning to a beautiful city, Las Vegas, Nevada. God is good and now I am done for the day.

  • Enthusiasm - Youth Ministries

Today I want to give some props to our Youth Pastor Jabin Chavez. Jabin models enthusiasm in what he does and gives energy to those around him. Under his leadership the youth ministry has exploded and young people love coming to it. It has grown to 250 youth with over 300 actively attending. This is the biggest our youth ministry has ever been.

Last night they saw the altars packed with youth seeking God and baptized 16 young people! Some of the youth who got saved decided to get baptized the same night with the clothes they had on and went home wet but saved and water baptized! Talk about having a move of God! It is nights like this that build enthusiasm and keep team leaders excited.

What happens in Vegas is going to change the world!

    Life of a Pastor,

    Benny Perez

  • Enthusiasm

The last letter in our acronym is E for enthusiasm! One of the greatest attitudes a person can have is enthusiasm. When you are enthusiastic and passionate about life or job it is amazing how much energy you have. Not only do you have great energy but you give energy to others. Everybody loves to be around an enthusiastic person.

As a leader I am always on the look out for people who have enthusiasm. I believe that these people tend to be optimistic about life and what they do. These are the people who help lift others up and can see how things can get done. When we are hiring we look these types of people. I often tell people that I can train people to do a job but I cannot train people to be enthusiastic!

Remember that the Bible says the Joy of the Lord is your strength! Be enthusiastic about life and what you do. It will change your day in a moment.

    Life of a Pastor,

  • Responsive

Today I want to cover the R which stands for Responsive. All strong pastors and leaders are people who are responsive. In other words they see what is happening around them and they respond in the appropriate manner. Too many people love to keep talking about something while others respond and take action. I believe that the difference between average people and great leaders is how one responds!

I am reminded about Abraham in Genesis 22 when God came to him and told him to go and sacrifice his one and only son. Abraham did not sit around and think about it nor did he form a committee and talk about it. He responded to the voice of God and did what the Lord asked him to do. As a result Abraham received divine provision at the very last moment before sacrificing his son. God was looking for Abraham to respond in faith and in turn God met him in the last moment.

In the times we are living in the Lord is looking for people, leaders and pastors who will respond to Him when He speaks. This is not the time to sit back and wait for the perfect conditions before you stop out and do something. This is the day to step out and respond in faith when we hear God speak to us. God sees greatness in you and you must step out and believe Him.

May I encourage you today to BE RESPONSIVE TO JESUS AND ALL THAT HE ASKS. YOU ARE A GREAT LEADER, PERSON AND PASTOR. NOW RESPOND.

    Life of a Pastor,

    Benny Perez

  • Being Open And Transparent

Today I will continue with my acronym of C.O.R.E and cover the O for openness.  I believe one of the keys for leaders is that they remain open and transparent with themselves and those around them. I have found being a pastor is one of the most challenging callings on the planet. So many people are looking my life and can be critical and cynical about me. As some pastors say "It goes along with the territory."

However, I think the way to combat this is to be open and transparent as a pastor. I grew up with many pastors portraying an heir of having it all together. God forbid they would even hint of challenges they were having in their own lives. I often wondered if they were living in the same world I was living in. When the Lord called me into ministry I was determined to be as open and transparent as I could. For over 20 years now, I have applied the O in my life as a youth pastor, traveling speaker and now as a lead pastor.

I believe that people want a real person pastoring. A person that is walking out the gospel in their daily lives like everybody else. Someone who has struggles but is able to apply the Word and look to Jesus to continue to overcome. It is time for people to be REAL, OPEN and HONEST with stuff. Remember you CANNOT CHANGE WHAT YOU ARE NOT WILLING TO CONFRONT! God already knows and He is looking to empower you today to live a life of victory.

I would encourage you to download the podcast from February 8th, New Beginnings Part 5. You will hear the openness of a pastor who is loving Jesus.

  • Character - The Real You

It has been said that character is the real you when nobody is looking. In other words who are you when the lights are off and the crowd is gone? What are you doing when nobody is watching? I believe the strongest characteristic we need as leaders and people is having a Godly character.

What I mean is not perfection but rather a character that is being shaped and formed by the one who sees all at all times. That are lives are being shaped daily into the image of Christ by the power of the Holy Spirit and the feeding of the Word of God. Too many people are more concerned about their public persona rather than their private life. The longer I've been in ministry the more I realize I need to cultivate a strong inner, private life with the Lord if I am going to last in the public arena. The world may notice your charisma but God sees your character!

Your Character will begin to reveal what is really in the inside of you. Under pressure your true character will come out. When life is hitting you hard, what do you do? Do you run to the Lord or run to earthly things?

The cry in this generation is for character. Character counts no matter what the world says. A person is only as strong as their character and your character is only as strong as your beliefs. The Bible says a good name is better than riches. Having character that is rooted in the beliefs of the Word of God is the most important thing.

So today understand that you are more than meets the eye. Your private life needs to be cultivated and nourished by the Lord.

  • Strengthen The Core

I was watching an infomercial the other night that was advertising a core workout routine. They believed that if you got your core strong then everything else in your body would get stronger as well.

I begin to think about our lives as leaders in the body of Christ. We need to work on getting our CORE strong. You see if our CORE is strong then our life will be strong also. I developed a C.O.R.E Leadership acronym. I know acronyms are so 80's but I loved the 80's so I came up with the following for Leadership:

    C - Character

    O - Openness

    R -  Responsive

    E - Enthusiasm.

I will explain each one in the coming blogs.

  • Do Your Talking With God

I am reminded on a daily basis that if I am going to do a lot of talking I should be doing it with God. Too many times I find myself asking for people's opinions about something even before I go speak to the Lord about it.

It frustrates me how much time people spend discussing some topic or issue but never do anything about it! I believe that if you spend a lot of time talking with God that your conversations with people would be more productive and insightful. One of my pet peeves is when people go into meetings and talk about something that needs to change but never do anything about it.

I do know that we have plan, prepare and look at things from all angles. But after this process takes place get up and make something happen! If you want to spend a lot of time talking then do it with the Lord. Let your requests be made known to Him. The Word of God declares that you have not because ask not. So go ahead and spend lots of time talking with Jesus. When you are done talking and He is done talking to you, add some works to your faith and see what happens.

Remember faith without works is dead!

  • Follow The Fire Truck

This morning I was heading to the office when I noticed a Fire Truck in front of me with the light going off. I was following from a distance and noticed that all the lights were changing as the truck approached the intersections. As I followed I received the benefit of all the green lights because of the truck.

As I was experiencing this I was reminded of the children of Israel in Joshua 3 when they followed the Ark of the Covenant across the Jordan river. They stayed a safe distance from the Ark but were instructed to follow the Ark. The Ark made a way for them, all they had to do was follow.

Today all you have to do is follow Jesus and His Word. He will begin to open doors, change lights and part rivers. It is not up to our ability but God's ability flowing through us!

So today just make you are following the right person.

  • Good To Great

I just read a great article by Jim Collins the author of Good to Great. I think all leaders should read the article. One of the sections of the article stood out to me and here it is:

How do you distinguish the truly great talent from the rest?

The right people don't need to be managed. The moment you feel the need to tightly manage someone, you've made a hiring mistake.

The right people don't think they have a job: They have responsibilities. If I'm a climber, my job is not [just] to belay. My responsibility is that if we get in trouble, I don't let my partner down.

The right people do what they say they will do, which means being really careful about what they say they will do. It's key in difficult times. In difficult environments our results are our responsibility. People who take credit in good times and blame external forces in bad times do not deserve to lead. End of story.

As Jim says having the right people is more important than having the right circumstances. You can read the whole article by following the link:

  • Feed 5,000

This morning I read in Matthew 14:16 Jesus told the disciples to feed the 5,000. This was after the disciples told Jesus to send the crowds away so they could go and get some food for themselves. Jesus did not even hear what the disciples said as he put the responsibility back on them. Jesus wanted His disciples to think beyond their normal borders and figure out a way to feed the 5,000.

The disciples looked at their lack with having only 5 loaves and 2 fish. Jesus answer was bring what you have to me. So many times as leaders we look at our lack and what to step back into the safe zone. Or we may live in the reality zone which causes us to stop dreaming or believing for God to come through. Jesus knew what they had and how many people were sitting out there needing something to eat. Jesus wanted to the disciples to step out in faith and believe that with His Help they could make it happen.

How about you as a leader today? As a Pastor I would love 5,000 people to show up at one time. However we would not have enough to feed them. Oh not fish but parking spaces, seating, children and other things go through my head. So many times I look at the lack instead of believing for ways to feed the 5,000. Can you do off site parking? How about put up a temporary tent that can handle the extra kids. Seat additional adults in the lobby or just have standing room only crowds.

I say bring it on Jesus. I want the challenge of feeding 5,000 with only limited resource in my hand. It will cause me to look to HIS HANDS. God is looking for someone to help feed the 5,000, Is It You?

  • Make It Happen

In life you have two types of people: Those who can only see how something won't work and those that see how things can work. I love being around people who think how something can be pulled off, instead of thinking about why it cannot be pulled off.

In 2 Samuel 23:15 David wants a drink from the well of Bethlehem which is controlled by the Philistines. The Bible says that his mightly men went and broke through the camp of the Philistines drew water from the well and brought it back to David. David was so moved that he poured it out because he knew that they had risked their lives to make it happen.

In leadership you need some mighty men who risk their reputations and what people think in order to make something happen. David's mighty men did not look at why it could not happen but rather looked at HOW IT CAN HAPPEN. These are the days to think bigger, crazier, out of the norm ways to reach more people. It is time for the Mighty Leaders to stand up and say WE CAN DO IT!

Leaders are thirsty and are looking for the Mighty Man to help quench their thirst.

  • It Time

I was remined by the Lord this morning about His timing as opposed to my timing. I remembered the story of Joshua when the Lord came to him in Joshua 1 and said that IT WAS TIME TO CROSS OVER THE JORDAN. Moses had died, the people were tired, the Jordan River was flooding and there were fierce enemies ahead of them. Yet God came to Joshua and said tell the people IT IS TIME TO MOVE AHEAD.

Many times in our life we look for the right circumstances to move ahead. When all things line up then we take a step forward. Yet we must realize that God does not look for the right circumstances God looks for the RIGHT PEOPLE! God is not moved by circumstances but rather He is looking for People To Move In The Midst Of The Circumstances.

God has found you and me and has given us the faith to move when He says it is time. I am challenging you today to get your eyes off the circumstances and put your eyes on the Lord. You are the right person God has in mind. You have been given a mandate by the Lord to move forward and reach a world for Him. See yourself as God sees you. Like Joshua God is telling you IT IS TIME!

But what about the Economy, housing problem and all the other stuff. Hey when God speaks He has Spoken. Take what is said and move ahead.

  • Giving Life The Finger

This past weekend as I was preaching I told my church that sometimes you have to give life the finger. No not the middle finger but the finger you hold up when you give the #1 sign. When you give life the finger you are pointing up to your source and strength. No longer are we going to try and do life in our power or look at ourselves as being the source.

The Bible says in Proverbs 3:5 to "Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding." Trusting God is an indication of who is your source. I am not going to lean on my own understanding when it comes to leading the church or my family. No I need God's wisdom and insight not my own.

So today hold up that finger at life and tell the world who is your source and provider.

    Life of a Pastor,

    Benny Perez

  • Who Is Number 1

I remember playing football in High School and after our team scored a touchdown we would always put up our fingers to show we were number 1. In fact my High School football team was undefeated and went on to win the league. We were really number 1 in our league and division.

I have learned in life that I must understand who is number 1. So many times i want to wave my finger and say that I am number 1. When in fact as a Christ Follower I must establish who is really number one. In Matthew 6:33 we read "Seek first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness and all these things will be added to you." The Lord is and must be number one in our lives. He is the ONE PRIORITY that everything else will follow.

The principle is very simple...Get number one right and everything else will fall into the proper place.

So today whenever you score a touchdown and you hold up your finger, remember that it is pointing up to your first priority: JESUS.

  • God Owns It All

I was reading in my devotions in the Old Testament and came across a very encouraging scripture found in Haggai. It says in Haggai 2:8 "The silver is mine and the gold is mine says the Lord of Heaven's Armies." The Lord is declaring that He owns all the finacial resources in this world. The our Lord is the owner of all the financail resources we need and desire.

So why am I sweating the financial crisis if the Lord is the owner of all things. This is the time to remind yourself that your real Source is the Lord. He has declared that everything is His and that He will take care of us as we TRUST HIM! Put your eyes on the real source not the temporal financial sources that we see. God is the one who is over all things and He is watching out for those who are trusting Him.

In this season that we are in don't let the dollar dictate your vision. Let your Vision that God has given you lead and guide you through this season. Remember that resources follow Vision! Your God Given Vision will come to pass as you trust the right source.

  • Watching History Unfold

Today was a historical day as America witnessed the Inauguration of the 44th President of the United States: Barack Obama. As I watched the Inauguration at my office I was so moved to see how far America has come. That an African American was taking the oath of the highest office in the land. He was signaling to all of us a need for change and for Hope to be restored in this great country.

I could not help and think that the Spirit of Change and Hope is in the air. And it is during this time that the Church of Jesus Christ should step up even more to give America hope and change that is found in a relationship with Jesus Christ. This can be the finest hour for the Church to be agents of change in a dying world. We can do what the Bible says and pray for our President and for those in authority. After our prayers we need to roll up our sleeves and begin to be light and salt to the world around us.

Today let us step up with our New President and echo the Words of Change and Hope to this nation. Jesus has already paid the price, it us up to us to share His Message.

  • Friends Matter

A great thought from Craig Groeschel's book IT

Studies reveal just how important friendships at work are. Gallup research shows that close friendships at work boost employee satisfaction by almost 50%. They explain that employees who have a best friend at work are seven times more likely to be emotionally engaged on the job. People with friends at work are 96% more likely to be extremely satisfied with their life.

  • Guest Blog: Pastor Mitch Fox

“He handed out gifts of apostle, prophet, evangelist, and pastor-teacher to train Christ's followers in skilled servant work, working within Christ's body, the church, until we're all moving rhythmically and easily with each other, efficient and graceful in response to God's Son, fully mature adults, fully developed within and without, fully alive like Christ.”

    The Message (Ephesians 4:11-13)

I love this translation in Ephesians because it tells us that pastors are to train Christ’s followers to do “skilled servant work,” so that we move “rhythmically and easily with each other, efficient and graceful in response to God’s Son.”

Sometimes pastors get so busy doing the work of the ministry that we forget our primary responsibility is to “train Christ’s followers” to do the work of the ministry. When church leaders empower their “ministry partners” to serve with delegated authority, there never will be a shortage of volunteers because our ushers, greeters and parking lot attendants will stay committed  “in response to God’s son,” rather than out of a legalistic, performance-oriented obligation. They will want to serve in our church because they love the Lord, not because they want to gain favor with Him.

Last Friday we celebrated our ministry partners by inviting them to a special worship service just for them. It was one of the most powerful services I have ever experienced in our church. The people instantly connected with the praise and worship. Pastor Benny gave a brief message of encouragement, exhortation and appreciation and then did something totally unplanned: He asked anyone who had a word or a prophecy to come to the platform and deliver it to the other ministry partners. The pastors watched a glorious move of the Spirit as our volunteers stepped up and prophesied, exhorted, prayed and preached.

We concluded the evening by awarding gifts and prizes to a few fortunate ticket holders.  We laughed and clapped as Starbucks cards and gift baskets were passed out. But our ministry partners don’t serve on weekends here at The Church because of gifts and prizes. They serve for THE prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus. Last Friday we were able to recognize our “gifts,” within The Church….those dedicated volunteers who are empowered to serve with the knowledge that they are doing it as “unto the Lord.”

  • A great blog from Mark Driscoll

There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under heaven… a time to be silent and a time to speak…
    Ecclesiastes 3:1, 7b

It was a very normal day until I realized that I was actively destroying my own soul.

The day began with my alarm jolting me awake. I immediately turned on my BlackBerry to hear it chime for each voicemail and email that had been left while I slept. I stepped into the shower where I listened to my waterproof radio. I then turned on the television to catch some news while I dressed. Driving to work I tuned in to some talk-radio banter.

Throughout the day the chime on my laptop kept ringing as email arrived, and my cell phone continued to vibrate and ring on my hip. Before long, I needed a break, and I put on my iPod to go for a walk.

On the drive home, I again listened to the radio in an effort to drown out the blaring horns of frustrated fellow commuters. After eating dinner and tucking my five children into bed, I turned on the television to watch shows I had recorded on my Tivo.

As I drifted off to sleep, it dawned on me that I had not had one minute of silence during my entire day. It was possible, I realized, that I could live the rest of my life without ever again experiencing silence.

In that moment, God deeply convicted me that I was addicted to the false trinity of our day, the gods known as Noise, Hurry, and Crowds. I remembered the words of missionary martyr Jim Elliot, who said, “I think the devil has made it his business to monopolize on three elements: noise, hurry, crowds . . . Satan is quite aware of the power of silence.”

I began to ponder what Jesus’ life might be like if He lived today. Would He be available to all of His followers twenty-four hours a day on His BlackBerry? Would He have left His phone on at the Last Supper and been continually interrupted by needless calls? Would He have failed to stop and speak to needy people because their weeping was not loud enough for Him to hear over His iPod as He hurried past them on His way to a meeting He was already late for?

In that moment I prayed, asking God for His wisdom and help to save me from myself. God answered my prayer and reminded me that Jesus often took periods of prayerful silence to hear from the Father and to ensure not that He was doing everything He could, but that He was doing only what was most important. For example, before beginning His public ministry, Jesus spent forty days fasting from food, people, and noise in an effort to prepare Himself to fully accomplish what God the Father had given Him to do on the earth.

Moreover, the Bible says in Luke 5:16 that “Jesus often withdrew to lonely places.” Jesus spent considerable time alone in silence to pray, rest, and focus on what priorities He should be devoting His time and energy to. This helps to explain why, in just three short years of ministry, Jesus had a greater impact on history than anyone else who has ever lived.

The Bible also describes multiple benefits of purposeful silence, including:

Since God convicted me of my addiction to noise, I have sought to conform my life more to the pattern of Jesus’, which has proven quite helpful. I try to spend at least five minutes an hour in silence, at least thirty minutes in uninterrupted silence each day, and a full day in silence once a month. During those times I find myself going for silent prayer walks to listen to God, writing in my journal, and sometimes doing nothing at all, which for me has become an act of faith that God is at work even when I am not.

My prayer is that those reading this who, like me, are guilty of noise addiction can also experience the regular gift of silence because that is often where God is waiting for us. There was silence before God spoke the world into existence, and silence for forty days before Jesus began His public ministry, which may indicate that silence is what allows us to speak as God intends.

  • Let It Go

One of the most challenging things to do in life is to let go of the past. I am not just talking about the hurtful things but the wonderful things. Too many of us are living in the past and missing out on what is happening in the now.

In Philippians 3:10 Paul says "...one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to those things which are ahead." This verse caught my eye and my Spirit as he said he was letting go of those things which are behind. I want to be a person who easily lets go and begins to look ahead to what is coming. God is not working in the past, rather He is working in the Present to bring about His desired future.

This is the Year to Let It Go, so you can experience the New Things that the Lord has for you. I am excited about what lies ahead. How about you?

  • It Is Time To Grow

When I was a little kid I would always ask my mom "Mom am I growing?" I was so caught up with growing bigger as a little kid. I focused all my attention on getting bigger and hoping I was getting taller. Growing and getting bigger was big for me as a kid.

Recently I began to think that I need the same mentality as a leader. I need to be asking myself the question "Am I  Growing, Am I Getting Bigger?" What am I doing to promote growth in my life? Am I allowing the Lord to stretch me and mold me into what He destined for me?

I was reminded of what Dr. Chand says "People have to understand that if you don't grow, you've got to go." Growing leaders produce growing organizations. This is the year for us to promote growth in our leaders and people.

Question: What are you doing to promote growth in your people and organization? If you don't have a plan you are just shooting in the dark.

Take some time today to set up a simple plan of growth in your life and those around. The time you take will produce incredible rewards.

  • 31 Flavors

When I was a kid I used to love to go to Baskin Robbins 31 Flavors Ice Cream Shop. The variety was something that I enjoyed as I knew I could get so many different types of Ice Cream. You see variety was the key to me enjoying 31 Flavors.

The same is true for church. Not one church style or expression is right for everyone. God is using more than 31 Flavors to reach the World. So bring on the Seeker Sensitive Church, Holy Ghost Fire Pentecostal Church, Charasmatic Church, Lutheran and Non-Denominational Churches. God surely can use more than one style of church and more than one style of preaching.

As for me I like a little fire on my food and my preaching. Like someone said to me, some like it hot and others don't. Either way it is only important that one eats the Bread of Life.

I don't want to criticize or minimize other moves of God. My prayer is Lord let me be a cheerleader for your Kingdom.

  • What Are You Passionate About?

On Saturday night I went to UFC 92 at the MGM Events Center. I was invited to attend by Wanderlei Silva who attends my church. I was excited to go since I am such a big fan of UFC and of Silva. Then I got even better news that I was sitting ringside on the front row, the best seat in the house!

It was one of the most Passionate events I have ever attended. There were 18,000 people who were so amped up to watch 9 fights and to see who would walk out of the octagon as a champion. The videos and production were out of this world as well as the sound system and lighting. You could not help but get caught up in the excitement and the passion of all the people. All for men fighting each other to capture a belt.

As I sat there I began to wonder why so many churches are not as Passionate about worshipping the True Champion: Jesus Christ. Why does the World shout louder for a mortal champion when we have an Immortal Champion. The Church of Jesus Christ has the most incredible person to be passionate about. It is time that we release our Passion for the King of Kings. Our Worship is not based upon lights, production and videos. Rather our worship is centered on Jesus and His Finished Work on The Cross over 2,000 years ago!

I want to encourage you to shout and be excited for the eternal things of life. Our Lord and Savior has walked out of the Octagon as Champion and Lord of all. Now you can be assured that you are a Champion and Winner because of Jesus Christ!

Don't let the World shout louder than the Church.

  • The Leader or A Leader

I get blogs eveyday from LifeChurch.tv that inspire and help me become a better leader. Today was so good I just have to share it with you. I hope you enjoy it and learn as much as I did.

    A Leader vs. The Leader

Pronunciation: “A Leader” Uh-Leader and “The Leader” Thuh Leader

Just because you are “A Leader” doesn’t necessarily mean that you are “The Leader.”

Just because you are “A Leader” who leads a church of 500 people; doesn’t mean that you are “The Leader” to take that church to over a thousand people.

Just because you are “A Leader” that has a position, a title and an office; doesn’t mean that you are “The Leader” that people believe in, respect and are excited to follow.

Just because you are “A Leader” that people look up to today; doesn’t mean that you are going to be “The Leader” that people look up to tomorrow.

Just because you are “A Leader” on this team; doesn’t meant that you are going to be “The Leader” on that team.

Just because you are “The Leader” to this particular group or faction; doesn’t mean you will be “The Leader” to that group or faction.

If you are “A Leader” and think that you are “The Leader” that can be a problem; know your place and respect your space.

Although both are important, there is definitely a difference between being “A Leader” and “The Leader”

Remember, just because you are “A Leader” doesn’t mean that you will necessarily ever be “The Leader”

If you are “A Leader” who’s determined to be “The Leader” figure it out; Go Lead… Transcend The Isms’

  • Being A Leader

I was thinking this morning about church and what it means to be a leader. I realize that I could not grow a church from 27 to 2 1/2 thousand people in 5 years without the Grace of God operating in my life. I also realize that God has given me a Grace Gift in Leadership. To have continued growth and lives changed takes more that just a talking head it takes a leader!

God is looking for Leaders to raise up in these days in which we are living in. The most crucial days for America and for the World lie ahead of us. We are going to experience a Leadership Change in the White House in Janurary of 2009. It will be one of the most significant changes this nation will see in the last 4 years. And might I add it is good that we have change in Leadership. One of the things I have learned is that we either need to Change Leaders or Leaders Need To Change! For us to cotinue to grow and learn we must be willing to change. Like Joshua in Joshua 1 we need to hear the Word of God speaking to us to let go of the past and embrace the present and look far into the future. This is the time for innovators and entrepeneurs to step out and believe God for New Things.

Here are some of my insights on Leadership:

    1) Not content with good but strives for great.

    2) Embraces and even instigates change.

    3) Motivates people by modeling not just talking.

    4) Believes that there is more that God has for people.

    5) Believes the best in people and life.

    6) Checks his thinking to make sure it is not hindering but rather helping his development.

    7) Recognizes that God has called him/her to lead.

    8) Continues to grow and never stops learning.

    Just some of my thoughts,

  • Snow In Las Vegas

Well last night we got hit with the worst snow storm in nearly 30 years. In fact I tried to make it home in my Mini Cooper and ended up getting stuck nearly 2 miles from my house. I decided to hoof it in my dress shoes and light jacket. I realized after half a block that it was not a good idea. I needed someone to stop and help me so I did not freeze! A young lady named Zahra stopped in a BMW SUV and offered me a ride. I jumped in and off we zipped up to my house. She was so nice that she drove me all the way to my front door. My wife and I thanked her and hugged her for helping a total stranger.

We then had to get our Nanny home as her truck would not make it through 2 feet of snow. So off we went in a friends 4 wheel drive SUV. We literally saw hundreds of cars stuck and blocking the road. We had to drive all the opposite side of the roads to drop her off and then make it all the way back to my house. It was an adventure of a lifetime!

It is still hard to believe that at my house I got over 2 feet of snow and that I am living in Las Vegas and not Michigan. It is so unusual and almost impossible for something like this to happen. I began to think that if it can snow in Vegas then God could do bigger Miraculous and Unusual things for us who believe in Him. In fact Christmas is about the impossible becoming possible. That God would come and wrap Himself in Flesh and Blood and be born as a little baby. A Virgin was overshadowed by the Holy Spirit and a miracle conception and birth took place.

So as I look at Snow In Las Vegas, I am reminded of the unusual taking place in the desert. And if it can happen in the natural then it can happen in the Spiritual. I am not looking for more snow, I am looking for God to the unusual in my life.

  • Going To A Laker Game

Today I am going to go to a Laker Game. I am driving 5 hours from Las Vegas to go to Staples Center to watch the Lakers play against Knicks. A friend in church called and asked if I wanted to go. I said absolutley lets take off and have a great time.

I am going to have a great time fellowshipping with my friend and talking about life. You see road trips are a great time to really get to know somebody. Road trips are fun because you get out of your normal environment and see something new. I especially love this trip because of where it ends up.

So as you live life and continue to have a Road Trip with God, be excited because this trip ends up somewhere incredible.

  • Recognition and Rewards

Today I went to my son B.J's school for a Recognition and Reward ceremony. B.J was so excited because he worked hard to get straight A's and he finally achieved it. This morning he was beaming because he knew he was going to get his reward.

There we were with other parents waiting to see our kids get their certificates. When my son's name was called we cheered and he lit up light a light bulb. We took video and pictures of his monumental day. It was a day that my son will not forget.

I began to think how all of us are motivated by rewards. One day we will all receive our rewards from Jesus for all that we have done for Him. We all want to hear the words "Well done you good and faithful servant." Our God is going to reward us when we get to heaven and He will also reward us down here.

I used to think that I did not want a reward but then the Bible says that God is a rewarder of those who diligently seek him. So lets not shrink back from expecting rewards from the Lord. He is a good Father who delights in giving out rewards to His Children.

  • Spending Time With A Man Of God

We finished our Breakthrough Conference on Tuesday Night with Craig Groeschel. Craig Pastors www.LifeChurch.tv with 55 worship experience in 14 locations. His church has grown to 30,000 people and just recently saw 2100 people commit their lives to Christ in just one month. He is one of the most innovative church leaders in the Body of Christ. He is a sought after speaker and consultant to churches and leaders.

But the thing that stuck out to me was more on the personal side of Craig. When he came he came as a servant not a superstar. Craig is one of the most deferring, humble and gracious Leaders I have ever met. He inspired me as a Pastor but most importantly as a Man of God.

Here are some of the things I learned from him:

    1) Jesus is first and Family is a close second. He loves Jesus with a deep Passion and loves his family the same way.

    2) His priorities dictate his schedule, not his schedule dictating his priorities.

    3) He loves people no matter who they are or what they can offer. I saw him spending time with Pastors of churches of 100 and 200. He treated them the same way he would treat Pastors of Mega Churches.

    4) He is not caught up in his success but rather defines his Identity in Christ.

    5) His ministry is about preaching Jesus and reaching those that don't know Him.

    6) He is one of the funniest people you can meet.

My wife and I both commented about how our life was impacted not just by a message but by the man behind the message. I know all Glory goes to Jesus but I am glad that He sent Craig to show us some more of Jesus in flesh and blood.

  • Bishop Long Brings Breakthrough

Last night we had an awesome meeting with Bishop Long. He came with a Prophetic Word from the Lord about the state of the church. He spoke out of Ezekiel 37 about the Valley of Dry Bones. He began to explain that this is the hour for the church to rise up and be the church. But there needs to be some adjustments in how we have been doing church and what methods we have been using.

My friend Dr. Samuel Chand (www.samchand.com) wrote out a summary of the message last night. Here are the points of the message:

    1.      REtooling the church – How politicians, especially Ron Paul and Obama changed the playing field by creating new funding mechanisms that were “cause” driven.  We need our people to have a cause bigger than themselves.

    2.      REstructuring the church – How yesterday’s structure is now becoming an impediment for effective Kingdom ministry.

    3.      REordering the church – How order in the church has deteriorated to almost anarchy described in the book of Judges.  Every man doing what was right in his own sight…

    4.      REarranging the church – How church services themselves have not evolved with the needs of the time.  STOP selling what you have and START selling what they need!

    5.      REcovering the church – How the concept of “covering” has sunk to the level of a multi-level enterprise and totally misunderstood.

    6.      REconnecting the church –How we need to reexamine who were are connected to.  The parts of the Body that need to be connected appropriately…

  • Monday Morning Excitement

It is Monday Morning and I am excited even after having 6 services this past weekend! We have begun our Breakthrough Conference last night with Dr. Chand. He was simply amazing as he communicated to my church, Pastors and Leaders the principle of: Where I am is not who I am and who I am is greater than where I am.

He spoke of Paul in Ephesians being an Ambassador in Chains. Although he was in prison he was still an Ambassador. You see where he was did not determine who he was. Too many of us define ourselves by what is going on around us, rather than understanding who we are In Christ. Our identity is an Ambassador of Jesus Christ and we can now have a postive impact on the World around us.

I sat began to think about my life and my church. I realized I am not going to define myself by the size of my church or th size of my ministry but by the size of Jesus Christ living in me. We are all Ambassadors for Christ sent out into the world to influence and to change this world. Don't let your head hang down today because of where you are, because who you are is greater than where you are.

So today medidate on Who You Are In Christ and you will see how your life begins to change by focusing on the Who not the Where.

  • Spiritual Passion

Today I would like to share a blog from Pastor Craig from Lifechurch.tv. It speaks to all of us not just to Pastors.

    What Keeps My Passion Alive

    Posted: 04 Dec 2008 04:42 AM CST

I am as susceptible to spiritual droughts as the next pastor. Because I know my vulnerabilities, I work hard to keep my passion alive.

Here are a few things I try to revisit:

See God working in another part of the world. God is so much bigger than what we see week in and week out and our churches.

Visit an impoverished place at least once a year. Some moms choose what to feed their children. Some moms have to choose which children to feed. Putting yourself in a place that crushes your heart keeps the passion alive.

Fasting. I don’t know why fasting works, but it does.

Develop friendships with non-Christians. Caring about people far from God helps keep me closer to God.

Devoted time to prayer. If I don’t spend time with my wife away from all the other pressures, it is hard for us to stay close. My relationship with God is the same. If I don’t spend time with Him, how can I know Him?

Give extravagantly. Something about giving big breaks the grip of this world and connects me closer to God.

Cry. For a number of years, I didn’t cry. I’m not sure I could cry. By God’s grace, I broke through it and can cry easily now.

Visit a cemetery. Seeing today in light of eternity always changes me.
    What works for you?

  • Preacher Gets A Simple Lesson

I was in my garage last night getting some ice cream in our freezer. I had my little girl with me Bella and decided to see if I have taught her about Christmas. So as we were walking to the freezer I asked Bella what is Christmas about? She looked at me and smiled big and shouted "Jesus Birthday!" Then I asked her why did he come and she said because He loves us. I sat stunned because I never told her that and yet she knew that God sent Jesus to show us that He loves us!

As I contemplated what she had just said, I realized that Christmas is not complicated. It is the coming of Jesus to show us that God loves us. Christ is the ultimate gift of Grace coming wrapped up in human flesh and blood. God's Greatest Gift was birthed for you and me.

As Bellas said He came to show us that He loves us. Today remember the simplicity of Christmas: Jesus came to show us that He loves us and that He came to show us that love so we can show others.

  • Preacher Gets Reprimanded

As a Pastor now being in ministry for 22 years (18 years full time) I realize more and more that I will be criticized and at times loathed. I recently had some encounters that at first I did not like or enjoy. In these meetings I was being called a False Teacher, Pharisee, Hypocrite and teaching false doctrine. As I left these meetings I began to realize the pain I was feeling as people had no problem letting me know my issues.

The first human reaction is to fight back, to try and some how show that I am not what one perceives me to be. Then I began to pray and think about all that was said. I began to look at my encounters as a way to grow. I began to pray for those who said these things to me and began to realize that I need more of Jesus in my life. The need to stay real and transparent is even more crucial now than it has ever been. However I wanted to do what so many Pastors do and that is pull back and isolate. This my friend is not the answer to whatever issues one faces. I am learning to view myself not through the eyes of a critic but through the eyes of God. I want to hear what is said and decipher whatever truth may be in it and yet understand that as a human being how much I need the Grace of God in my life.

I write this blog today to reaffirm that the Grace of God saved me and even in my frailty it is the Grace of God and only by Faith in Him I am Pastoring today after all these years. The Grace of God and His Love for Me will not only keep me in ministry but keep me open while in ministry.

  • Preacher Gets Preached To!

This past weekend the preacher (me) got preached too. I had my staff preach at our 5 weekend services. I did not give them a text but gave them a theme and then Trusted the Lord that He would speak to them.

I must say that I literally was ministered to in every one of the services. I was sitting there thinking "This is great. I am being blessed as well as the people." Then I began to think about Pastors and Leaders who never sit in their own churches to listen to the Word being preached. Too many of us have special speakers who come one in when many of us have some great preachers and teachers right in the house!

I believe that when we have a weekend with other staff preaching it does the following:

    1) Gives the people a fresh voice that still has the DNA of the church.

    2) Builds confidence in the people that we have anointed, capable and brilliant staff.

    3) Shows the people the security of the Leader when he/she can have others speak.

    4) Gives the Lead Pastor a much needed break without being away from church.

    5) Stimulates creativity in the Lead Pastor and lets him see the weekend differently.

    6) Lets God's voice be heard in multiple ways.

    7) Staff begin to appreciate each other more.

Just a few of my thoughts of an awesome weekend. We are putting together a DVD/CD series of the staff preaching weekend. You will want to get your hands on it.

  • Happy Thanksgiving

I want to say Happy Thanksgiving to everybody in my church and my blogging community. The Bible declares to Give Thanks to God for He is Good! So today be grateful and Thankful for who God is in your life.

I want to share that I am Thankful for:

Jesus, My Family: Wendy, Benjamin, Bella, and Benaiah, and our child in heaven. My mom and dad and my brother and sisters. Wendy's family and extended family. One of the greatest churches in America and the Pastors and staff that minister at the church and to all the Ministry Partners.

Also to all of our Association Churches and Leaders. Looking forward to seeing you in December.

  • A Little Bit Of Oil

As I was driving to work today a thought came into my mind "A Little Bit Of Oil." I was drawn to the story in I Kings 17:12 with the prophet Elijah and a widow who going to cook her last meal and die. The woman only had a little oil in her house and was going to use the last of it and die.

Elijah said to give it to him first and see how God was going to provide in the midst of recession. The woman did it and God provided for her with an increaes of oil that kept filling up the empty vessels.

How about you today? What little thing do you have that when given to God will mulitiply to great provision. So many of us look at how little we have and wonder what is going to happen. We need to see our little bit of oil and see that in God's Hands it will begin to be blessed and mulitiplied.

You see God specializes in the little. He had a little shepherd boy named David, he used a little boys lunch to feed 5 thousand, he used a little staff to part the Red Sea and he chose a little young lady as the Mother of Jesus. God specializes in the little!

So today thank God for the little you do have. Look at it as an opportunity for God to do something great with your little.

  • Thanksgiving Week

Today is Monday and it officially starts the Thanksgiving Week. I actually started the Thanksgiving Week on Saturday as I preached the first of our five weekend services. I must say that it was an incredible week with over 40 people getting right with God, thousands in attendance and such a sweet sense of God in church.

I told our church that this week they need to be Thankful and Grateful for all that they do have and quit looking at what they don't have. I began to thank God for all that He has done in our church and for Who He Is In My Life! I am reminded of Ephesians 5:20, "Giving thanks always for all things to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ." What a powerful scripture for all us of us, Giving thanks for all things!

I am so thankful for the most generous church in Las Vegas! We made sure that nobody in our church was going to go hungry or without for Thanksgiving. We gave every family that needed the money to buy a full blown Turkey Dinner for their family. It was so exciting to see the church respond by giving financially to help others in need. I believe God has seen and will bless so much those that have given, many out of their need to help another family.

Today I give thanks to God for The Church at South Las Vegas and the most incredible Pastors and Staff a Lead Pastor could have.

  • Taking A Little Walk

Yesterday I went for a little walk with my little daughter Bella (4). I was going to get the mail and asked her to join me for the 1/2 block walk to our mail box. She was so excited to go on a walk with dad. She ran to get her shoes and quickly put them on. We proceeded out the door walking hand in hand laughing and giggling as daughters often do with their dads. These are the moments that I love as a Father.

As we were walking down the street I asked her what is Christmas about. She yelled out presents! I said yes that is part of it but do you know anything else? She looked at me and said Christmas Tree and lights. I smiled and said that is part of it, but do you really know what Christmas is about? She nodded and I said it is about the greatest gift ever given: Jesus. Her eyes lit up when I said Jesus. I proceeded to tell her that Christmas is Jesus birthday and He came to save us from our sins. My little girl said "Oh that is great dad!" She then said that she loved Jesus and presents. We both laughed and I enjoyed a great moment with my daughter.

Can I ask you when was the last time you went for a little walk with your Heavenly Father? When was the last time you took a few short minutes and walked with your Father hand in hand just waiting for Him to speak to you. As much as I loved spending time with Bella, your heavenly Father loves it more when you walk with Him. I can see God calling each of us out for a little walk to share some thoughts of truth and love.

You see God used to take little walks in the cool of the day with Adam and Eve. He even came after they fell and was walking in the garden, calling out to them . I believe the Lord is still walking and calling.

    Hear Him calling you today.

  • The God Of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob

When you read the phrase in the Bible the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob what come to your mind? Do you see a God who showed up to 3 different men and giving them their purpose? Or do you see the mulitple generations that God was speaking too? Personally I began to think today about my life and those that are coming after me. In other words my life is just bigger than me and my generation.

I want to be a leader who is more interested in leaving a legacy that leaving a big name. I want to begin to lead with my son Benjamin (8 years old) in mind. I need to begin to see God as a God of generations who is building and adding to each coming generation the blessings of the former generation. This is the mindset that changes the world to come and begins to impact the world that is here right now!

Can I encourage you today to be a person who begins to think beyond yourself. To begin to see life through the lens of generations and not a lens of your life time. When you breathe your last breath what will they say about you? More importantly what will continue to live on because of your life that you lived?

Let the cry of your heart and life be for real change to come to future generations because you lived your life with eternity in mind. As for me living in Las Vegas, I have determined to impact the city in my lifetime and see it changed in the generations to come.

  • How Is Vegas Holding Up?

I am asked that question by my friends and by so many people. In the economic challenges of our day, people are wondering how Vegas is fairing. Well Vegas has been hit the hardest of all cities in America. We have the highest foreclosures and one of the highest unemployment rates of any city. The local billionaire Adelson looks like he may have to declare Bankruptcy because of what is happening. People are very fearful and wondering what is going to happen. Tourism is down and the hotels and gaming are hurting.

So what is the bright spot? The Church of Jesus Christ is the bright spot in our city. God is pouring out His Spirit in unusual ways in our church and other churches in Vegas. This is the greatest hour for the church in Vegas. I know that our church is reaching more people and plans on launching another campus to reach even more people. We believe the greates hour for Jesus in now in Las Vegas. People are realizing that there is more to life than houses, money, stuff and influence. The one thing that people are finding is Jesus! He is the hope of Vegas, American and the nations of the World.

So how is Vegas doing? It is doing great because Jesus has not given up on Las Vegas. Jesus said in Matthew 16 that He would build his church and the gates of hell will not prevail against it. It is a time to build and step out to reach more people than ever before.

  • Time For Change

As I sit back and observe the landscape of America I realize we need some great change in our nation. The nation is at a time of great turmoil and unrest. I believe that this is the greatest hour not for a policitician but for the church of Jesus Christ. This is our time to begin to step out and declare that we know where true change comes from and it is from the Lord.

You see we have a power that the Democrats nor Republicans posess. The Lord has given us the Power of His Holy Spirit. The Spirit of God is the agent of change that operates in and through us. The Bible says in Romans 8:2 that the Power of the Life Giving Spirit has freed us from the power of sin. In other words the Power of the Holy Spirit gives us the power to change in the inside and outside. We must realize that we are not victims of circumstances around us. No sir we are more than conquerors because of the Holy Spirit inside of us. You have the agent of change living big inside of you.

Today is the day of change for you and for those around. Lets not wait for the White House but let us rise up in God's House and declare the Power of the Spirit is here for real lasting change.

  • Guest Blog-It's All About People

    "It's All About People."

Something shot off on the inside of me when Lead Pastor Benny Perez said that to our pastors during a recent staff meeting. I started thinking about the lady who came up to me after a Sunday service with tears in her eyes. "The doctor said I don't have skin cancer!" she exclaimed breathlessly.  It was only a week earlier that she had cried as she received prayer for an ominous looking mole that had reappeared on her face. Now tears of joy flowed freely as she told us the good news.

I was also reminded of the lady I visited in the hospital, a woman who used her faith to defeat cancer twice within 18 months but was now on her back as doctors searched for the source of an intestinal blockage. As I sat near her bed, we talked and prayed. I realized that I was receiving as much ministry as she was.

I also thought about our 11:30am Sunday service. As I stood in the back of our worship center, I looked out at a packed house of people who were hanging on Pastor Benny's every word, hungry to hear that their sins....past, present and future had already been forgiven.

We hear a lot about "victorious living." Real "victorious living" will only become a reality in your life as you allow the compassion of Jesus to flow through you so that others will be touched by the hand of the Master.

Matthew 25: 40 "...Assuredly, I say to you, inasmuch as you did it to one of the least of these my brethren, you did it to Me."

  • Guest Blog: Responding to Disappointment

Recently I had to deal with disappointment. I won’t tell you what it was, but needless to say it affected me more than I thought I would. Surely, if we’re honest with ourselves I think we have all experienced disappointment at some point in our lives. In my quiet times with the Lord I felt that He told me it’s alright to be disappointed. The test is not the disappointment—it’s how you respond to being disappointed. Even Jesus experienced disappointment in the Garden of Gethsemane with His disciples (Matthew 26:36-46). Here are some things God spoke to me about concerning my response to being disappointed:

Don’t react. Our natural tendency is to react to a decision instead of processing through it. Take time to process why the decision was made and your feelings towards that decision. As Christians we need to trust that God is still on the throne and even though we may not like a decision—God is bigger and is not confined to man’s way of doing things.

Trust your leadership. Don’t trust them merely because they sign your paycheck, instead trust that they are making good decisions because they are who God has placed over you.

Talk through your disappointment. I had three people I talked to—one was my wife and two other godly men who I admire. This helped me get things off my chest and at the same time allowed me to listen to good, godly advice that encouraged and lifted me up. DON’T talk to people who will feel sorry for you. Talk to people who will push you to move on and do better. Feeding your disappointment “bug” can lead to forms of depression and negative feelings towards those who brought on the disappointment.

Think about what you can learn from the experience and take away the positive. Use this as a tool for personal and spiritual growth.

Don’t condemn or judge yourself. Disappointment is a natural response when something doesn’t go the way you wanted it to go. Failing at something or not having something fall your way doesn’t mean that you are a failure.

Read Job 38 to remind yourself how great God is—He is for you and not against you. I leave you with Revelation 3:8a (NLT), “I know all the things you do, and I have opened a door for you that no one can close.”

  • LIve Free Today

I am preaching a series on Grace. I initially thought it would last around 4 weeks but it has been going for 9 weeks. One of the things that God is doing in our church is breaking people free from Condemnation.

So many Christians are walking around filled with Condemnation for things they have done in their lives. Yet the Bible says in Romans 8:1 that there is no Condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. There is no if, ands or buts to this statement. God means what He says and wants us to take it to heart.

Notice that the only thing we need to do is be in Christ. Christ has done it all so that we can live free through His shed blood and atonement through the Cross of Calvary. Remember the only time you feel condemnation is when you sin. Yet this is exactly the time that God wants you to remember there is no condemnation because Christ has taken your sins: past, present and future to the cross. You don't have to run away from God but run to him in your time of need. God has set it up that you can come boldy to the throne of Grace and obtain mercy in time of need.

So today remind yourself and the devil that you are not going to live under condemnation anymore. You are free to live for Christ and when you do fail there is the throne of Grace where you will receive mercy.

  • God's Weekend

Have you ever stopped to think that each weekend is God's Weekend? It is time for most of us to set aside some quality time to worship the Lord in a weekend service. Our eyes and ears are tuned towards heaven as we recalibrate after a long week of work and other activities. The services are often the times when we hear more clearly about Jesus and His plans and purposes for our lives and the lives of others.

I want to encourage you to really expect God to move in the services each and every weekend. In fact don't come to church by yourself but take the time to invite someone new. This coming weekend can change the life of a person for eternity. So have fun this coming weekend but make sure you remember it is God's Weekend and He is waiting for you to come with somebody so that He can make a difference.

This past weekend at The Church nearly 30 people got right with God and over 300 people got set free from Condemnation. The lives of all these people will never be the same. I rejoice over what the Lord did in thousands of lives over the weekend. I already know that the best is yet to come. Personally I cannot wait for this next weekend to see what else the Lord has in store for us.

  • Response of Righteousness

How do we respond to the cultural wars around us? California just voted and passed Prop. 8 which was bitterly contested. Some labeled it as a hate bill against homosexuals, while others said it was denying civil rights to a segment of society. Where do we as Christians stand in the midst of these cultural wars and what should be our Spirit and Attitude?

Well I believe that it is not so much the what of our communication but the how we communicate it. You see so many people have more trouble in how we say something and not just what we say. So many times in the past some Christians have said the what with the how of hatred and arrogance. I don't believe we have to say the what with a horrible how. We can state what the Bible says and what God says in a Christlike manner. The more meekness we show to those against us the more Christ will be seen. Remember that Christ was meek and humble. Meekness by the way is not weekness but power under control. We need to have our power under control. God is not intimidated and neither are we. We must be a people who are secure in what God has stated and keep on stated it over and over again. Remember we did not write the Bible we are the ones reading it and implementing it.

Standing for the sacredness of marriage as clearly defined in the Bible and defined by society for thousands of years is not bigotry or hate. Rather we are affirming the sacredness of marriage as between one man and one woman. In fact we need to remember that divorce is running rampant and that God has spoken on that issue. It is time for Christ followers to begin to be the salt and the light. Not reflecting our own biases but reflecting the Word of God in our daily lives. For this to be true we need to lean into the Grace of God and know that we cannot do it in our own power. Truly we need the Holy Spirit operating more and more in our lives so that we can stay strong in the greatest war: The Culture War.

  • History Has Been Made

Today we wake up to a new reality in America. We have our first African American President who will take office very shortly. It is amazing to see how far we have come as a nation in the area of race and the electing of a person of color to the highest office in the land.

We stand at this historic moment let us remeber that the Bible tells us in I Timothy 2:2 to pray for those in authority. We are called to honor the King and pray for God's wisdom and insight to come upon them. I pray for President Elect Obama that God would lead and guide him in all of his decisions. That President Elect Obama would use the Word of God as his guiding light in times of cultural and economic turmoil. We know that the Lord is in charge of the affairs of men and that He puts up and pulls down.

Let us be the church that rises up in prayer and we take to heart that we are the light and salt of the world. I believe the greatest days for our nation and for the Church of Jesus Christ is ahead of us.

  • Election Day

Today America will vote and elect the next President of the United States. I love that I live in America where I get the honor to vote for those that will govern. I want to encourage everyone to go out and let your voice be heard by casting your vote. This is a very important election and I know there are heated debates coming from all side. I would just let you know one thing. True change never has come from the White House only from God's House.

I want to remind you that Jesus is the true agent of lasting change. He is the one that never was voted in and never will be voted out. Remeber that Jesus declared in Matthew 5 that His followers are the Salt of the earth and the Light of the World. It is only when true Christ Followers step up and let their light shine that true change will really occur. Let us this Election Day do our part as Americans but let us live our life as Christians!

  • This What Church Is About

This weekend was just amazing for us here at The Church at South Las Vegas. We had such a powerful sense of God's Presence in all of our services! I was so overwhelmed by Jesus that I almost forgot I had to preach.

I just believed that the Lord wanted to reach people in an usual way. In fact at our 11:30 service He did just that. At the end of worship I felt I needed to get up and make an altar call for people to get right with Jesus. To my surprise hands started shooting up all over the worship center. Before we knew it nearly 25 people raised their hand and came forward to have Jesus become Lord of their life. The church went crazy with Praise and Worship and Shouting. It remined me of being in a sold out NBA game where the fans are going crazy! We were certainly going crazy for the right reason: People Getting Right with God.

I was reminded of the words of Jesus in John 4:35 "Do you not say. There are still four months and then comes the harvest? Behold I say to you life up your eyes and look at the fields, for they are white for harvest!". It is time to look up and open our eyes for the great harvest that is here now.

  • Going To Dream Today

Today is going to be a great day. I am going to speak at the Dream Center for Pastors Tommy and Matthew Barnett. These are some of the most incredible Pastors in the world. I appreciate their passion to reach people and give them hope in Jesus Christ.

I have spoken at the Dream Center numerous times over the years. I must admit it is one of my favorite places to preach in the nation. The reason is that I get to see the lives of thousands of people who have been impacted by the message of Jesus. The outreaches and the creativitiy to reach more people is contagious. I cannot help but at times weap as I see so many people changed because of the Dream of 2 men.

How about you today? What Dream has God given you that has the ability to touch other people and bring them to Jesus. Your God Idea can touch thousands or just one. The point is that every person is special to Jesus. I want to encourage to Dream big Dreams for God. Don't limit yourself and think it is only for other people to Dream. No you can Dream and see those Dreams come to pass.

As I speak tonight I know that I will be more impacted than the people I am speaking too. I always leave the Dream Center changed and believing God for more in my city of Las Vegas. So today Dream a little bit and see what God will do with your Dream.

  • Try Something For The First Time

I remember going to the same restaurant with my wife and ordering the same thing. She challenged me to tray something for the first time. I remember ordering a new dish and wondering how I would enjoy it. As it came out I surveyed the landscape on the plate and thought I should of ordered what I normally do. Reluctantly I tasted the new dish and to my surprise I loved it. I devoured that food on the plate faster than it was brought out. The server commented that it looked like I liked the dish.

It is amazing how many of us are relunctant to try something for the first time. How many of us are fearful of trying something new. There is a story of a now well known singer. He was a very talented piano player who performed in a local bar. People came from all over to hear him play the piano. One night a high roller requested the man to start singing as he was playing. The piano player refused because he did not sing in public. The customer complained to the manager. The manager came and told the piano player if he did not sing he would not get paid.

The piano player sang for the very first time in public. The audience never heard the song "Sweet Lorraine" sung like he had sung it. From that point on the piano player became a singer. He went on to become American most well know entertainers with songs like "Unforgettable" and "When I Fall In Love." His name is Nat King Cole!

Nat King Cole would have lived all of his life as a no name piano player, if he did not sing for the first time. What do you need to step and do for the first time? What has God laid up inside of you that you may not know is there? It is time to step out and do something for the first time. It is time to stretch yourself and experience something new.

Somebody is waiting for you on the other side of something new.

  • Just Have Some Fun

Some days you just need to have some fun. In fact, there are days at church that you just need to have some fun. This past Sunday night we had our Fun Fest for our kids and families of our church and the community. We turned our church into a Fun Zone. We had carnival rides, bounce houses and obstacle courses. There were so many games for the kids to win candy and other prizes. I saw nearly 3,000 people come to church and have fun for a few hours on a Sunday night.

As I walked around I began to think that God loves to see this happen. People having fun and enjoying life at church. We want to show people that as Christ Followers can enjoy life and have fun in a clean, creative and joyous way. People need to find life at church! We must exude the God Kind of life in our services and events. Remember, Jesus said He came to give us life and life more abundantly! (John 10:10).

So today take a little time and have some fun. Go out on a walk and enjoy God's creation. Take your family to get some ice cream. Go to the movies, mall, beach, park and have some fun. Ride your bike and get some fresh air. Life is too short not to just have some fun.

  • Surprises

How many of us love surprises? I know most of us love surprises as long as they will be good surprises. Yet in life we do get surprises that we either love or don't love. The cool thing about life is that it will continue to give us surprises.

I had someone recently surprise me by slipping a check into my hand for 500.00 dollars. It was made out to me as a surprise blessing to me and Wendy. It brought a smile to my face and joy to my heart that someone appreciated me and gave me a suprise blessing. I have had our church blessed by individuals who surprised me by handing me checks for incredible amounts of money. As a Pastor of a growing church with a great vision it is always a welcome surprise to receive financial blessings to help us reach more people.

How about when you get another surprise. When the doctor surprises you with a diagnosis you were not ready to hear? How about a spouse who surprises you with information that is devastating? How about your employer who surprises you with a notice of you losing your job? There can be so many of these surprises that come at you in life. It is in these situations that you can be sure there is someone who is never surprised. His name is Jesus.

You see God is never surpriesed witht life's turns and change of events. The Bible declares that God is the Alpha and Omega, He is the beginning and the end. God knows all and is never surpised by anything in your life. In fact God will order your steps to get through all of the surprises that spring up in life. You don't have to be worried that God is taken by surprise over the situations in your life.

So today take heart and know that Jesus is watching over your life, even during the surprises. He declares He will never you nor forsake you. He is with you in the Valleys and Mountain Tops! He knows what is coming and you can trust that He will bring you through all of the things you are facing today!

  • Better Late Than Never

Well it is 2:45 in the afternoon and I find myself getting just getting to write my blog. I wonder if anybody has ever had a day like I had today. It started at about six this morning as I found myself having to deal with a problem that I had not anticipated. I actually had to track down information that seemed to be easy but just became more complicated as I looked. I found myself hating the computer and the internet because I wanted to talk with a person and not just interact with a screen.

It lead me to think maybe other people are finding out what I am finding out: that the world is less personal and more mechanical. All I wanted today was to talk to a person who could help me; not another computer voice that did not know what I needed. Has this ever happened to you?

Today I want to be a little more personable to those around me. Take time for a little smile and a little "I hope you are having a great day." Life is about people and we must not forget that people matter. I know this is hard for those of us who are task oriented, but it is a lesson to learn everyday.

Well I feel better after venting a little bit. Thank you for taking the time to read some of my thoughts.

  • Keeping First Things First

Pastors and Leaders have asked me how are we doing in this economy in Las Vegas? Well I recently found out from the Las Vegas Review Journal that my state and city are now officially the hardest hit places in America. We are feeling the economic pain more than anybody else. Here are some of the challenges: Highest foreclosure rates, highest unemployment rate in the last 20 years, construction grinding to a halt, housing market continuiing to decline, tourism declining and fear running rampant in the city. It is a challenging time for the city, for people and for the church.

So what are we doing? We are living by Matthew 6:33 "Seek first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness and all of these things will be ADDED to YOU." As Christ Followers we belong to another Kingdom, which is over and transcends the earthly kingdom. Our Kingdom is ruled by another King and His name is Jesus. We are not taking our cues from the stock market or housing market but from God's Kingdom. We refuse to allow fear to control us into believing the lie that God cannot care for us! Our people are Keeping first things first: The Kingdom of God!

So what are learning in Las Vegas?

    1) God's Kingdom brings provision to those that trust Him.

    2) God's Kingdom gives us the right perspective and priorities to live by.

    3) God's Kingdom is ruled by a higher source: King Jesus.

    4) God's Kingdom adds to us when we keep it first.

So be encouraged today. God is taking care of us in Vegas and he will do the same for you.

  • Find Rest For Your Souls

In the hectic pace of life do you ever feel like you are living on the edge? I often find myself so busy in life that I forget to enjoy life. Even though I am in the ministry and love what I am doing, I still find myself weary and needing some rest.

I have had friends tell me that I need to slow down (and maybe I do) and just chill out a little and let my body rest. But the challenge is not my body but rather my mind and emotions. You see I have learned that most of us need rest for our souls. Our souls are our mind, will and emotions. Most people may know how to rest their bodies but how about their souls?

Jesus in Matthew 11:28 -30 said "Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light." This is how we find rest for our souls: Jesus! Everything in our life must be in the life flow of Jesus.

Jesus is not just to be experienced in a church service but His presence should be experienced everyday we wake up. Jesus is here to give us rest for our wearied minds, hearts and emotions. Today do you need some rest for your soul? You can find it in Jesus.

So take a moment out to realign yourself with the one who promises rest. He is with you, giving you His strength and Power for the journey called life.

  • Prayer Our Divine Lifeline

Acts 4:31  "And when they had prayed..."

Last night we had a prayer meeting with nearly 350 people. God spoke to my heart to call a prayer meeting. It was not one designed to beg God to move but rather to thank God for moving on our behalf.

We spent time in worship and praise to Jesus! It was in that moment that literally the place began to be filled with the Glory of God. People began to praise spontaneously to the Lord. People began to shout, sing and lift their hand as God's Presence swept into the building. The Lord reminded me of Acts 4:31 "And when they had prayed the place where they were assembled together was shaken; and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit..."

Today let me encourage you to pray and have the Holy Spirit fill you again with a fresh enduement of power. This is the time to pray and focus in Jesus and His power that is being poured out into our lives.

  • Keeping Your Eyes On Jesus

Keeping our eyes on Jesus... Hebrews 12:2 a

I remember seeing a movie in which a woman was hanging over a cliff with the hero stretching his hand towards her. His words ring out in my memory as he calls out, "Don't look down, keep looking at me." As she listens to him and changes her focus from her possible fall to his hand she begins to calm down. Her fear begins to be overcome, not because she is in a better position but because she has changed her perspective! As she looks to the hero she reaches out to his extended hand and is pulled up to safety.

I cannot help but see Jesus in this picture. He is our Hero who is extending His hand out to us and is telling us "Don't Look Down!". We must look up because that is where our help is coming from in our time of need. The hand of God is reaching down to all who will look up and call upon Him and His provision. Like Peter walking on water, let us keep our eyes on Jesus and not the circumstances around us. Even when we begin to look down and around Jesus is only a prayer away.

  • What Goes Up Must Come Down

Have you ever heard the phrase "What goes up must come down?" When you look at life you can certainly say this phrase may be true. Look at the stock market: up and down. Look at housing: up and down, look at life: up and down, look at your moods: up and down and look at you family: up and down. I began to think that everything in the natural will go up and down.

There is only dimension that stays steady and is going up: Jesus. In James 1:17, "Every good and perfect gift is from above, and comes down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no VARIATION or SHADOW OF TURNING." The Lord is the only one that does not go up and down. He is not changing nor is He getting weaker or confused. God is the only one who is not on a roller coaster and is not freaking out over the ups and downs of life.

This is the time to stay steady with our hearts and minds fixed on Jesus. He is the author and finisher of our faith. He is Sovereign over all things, so don't let your mind or emotions keep going up and down with the turns in housing, the stock market or life. The Lord is steady and He will keep you in perfect peace if your mind is stayed on him.

  • In God We Trust

In the times we are living in let us put our eyes on the right source: Jesus. I was paying for something with cash and I actually looked at the money and saw the phrase "In God We Trust." I thought isn’t that ironic, as so many people are trusting in money rather than God.

How about you? Do you really trust God in these turbulent times? This is the time for us to remember what the Bible says in Proverbs 3:5-6, "Trust in the Lord with all your heart, do not depend on your own understanding. Seek his will in all you do, and He will show you which path to take." (NLT) This is a season of trust in the supernatural God we serve! Jesus will show you the path to take.

  • It Is Flood Season

The Lord gave me a message to preach to my church this past Sunday. I had my sermon ready to preach on Grace (pt.5) but in my office before the first service I felt prompted by the Lord to preach out of Joshua 1:1-5, 10 and 3:15. I began to see that the Children of Israel crossed over during flood season. Flood season is a season of destruction and fear. Anytime there is a flood it is not a good season. Nobody ever prays for a flood! We may pray for rain but never a flood. A flood is never a good thing.

You see many of us are in flood season. We are facing major floods in America: economic flood, mortgage flood, banking flood, stock market flood and housing flood. There is widespread fear in the heart of people. But as read further in Joshua the scriptures tell us that the Jordan River floods during harvest time.

The Lord is looking for a people who will step into the middle of the flood and believe that He is still a God who can take us through the floods and into our harvest. The greatest obstacles provide the greatest opportunities. It is time for us to see that we have the Presence of God living in us and as God directs us through the flood, we must be looking to the harvest.

Find yourself in a flood, it may be an indication of a harvest.

  • Day Off

Today was my day off and I forgot I did not write my blog. Instead I got up before the sun rose and went golfing and had a great time with some friends. Some people cannot understand why I love golfing so much. Well here are few reasons:

    1) Golf courses are some of the most beautiful places to walk.

    2) It is a game that challenges you to think.

    3) It is a game of self improvement.

    4) It lets you get out and breathe some fresh air.

    5) You only have to focus on one shot at a time.

    6) Sometimes you play well and other times not so well, but you always have fun.

    7) It always has a new challenge to face.

    8) It helps me relax and enjoy the beautiful desert.

    9) I usually get comped!

  • Hanging With The Youth

Got to speak to the youth minsitry last night. As some of you know I have taken over the youth and I preach along with Pastors Justyn and Jabin. The ministry has grown nearly 300% in just the last 6 months! God has really began to move in awesome ways in the youth.

Last night we had hundreds of youth that were praising Jesus with Passion! I preached and we saw 15 young people give their hearts to Christ. It is the most incredible feeling seeing young people surrender to Jesus and have their sins forgiven and a purpose released into their lives. I drove home thanking God for all that He did and looking forward to next Wednesday night.

Hey, I might want to find another Lead Pastor and go back to youth full time.

  • Presence of God

Last night I was thinking that what our church needs is more of the tangible Presence of God in our services. Living in Las Vegas we are constantly bombarded with what we can see and experience with our eyes. If we are not careful we can strive to have a cool church that is so hip and relevant but yet miss out on what is really important.

Lights and plasma screens do not change lives, only the Presence of God changes lives. We are aware of making the church look relevant and nice for people to come and worship. But I am still convinced that only the Power and Presence of Jesus is the only thing that can really change the lives of people.

In Exodus 33:15 Moses is speaking with God and makes an astounding statement, "The Moses said to God, "If your Presence does not go with us, do not bring us up from here." I want to make a declaration today, Lord I don't want to do anything unless Presence is with us. No program or ministry unless the Presence of God is operating and moving in it.

Today spend some time alone in God's Presence and remember that we want Him more than anything else.

    10 Things I RE-Learned This Week 10.03.08

    Pastor Justyn

    • Being a true leader means making tough decisions. This week I had to be “the bad guy” a few times. A position that I haven’t had to be in too often.
    • Life isn’t fair.
    • Hire very slowly—fire very quickly.
    • Separate business from personal emotions and feelings.
    • Don’t hire people based on promises. Hire people based on passion.
    • Be careful what you promise and be slow to make promises.
    • Realize what’s really important in life and invest in that. This week had an “uneasy atmosphere” due to transitions and finances. When it’s all said and done my wife and kids bring out the best in me including peace and so I invest my time into them more and more.
    • Money is never the solution—God-given ideas are.
    • What’s here today can be gone tomorrow later today!
    • Keep trusting and supporting those who God has placed over you.

  • Vision Weekend

Well we just finished one of the most powerful weekends we have had this year! It was our Vision Weekend where we celebrate all God has done from last September to this September. Our church is now 5 years old and we all wonder where did the time go?

The weekend started off with our Saturday night service where I did not preach. The Presence of God was so strong I just tapped in and people began to get healed and touched. A lady who had suffered a broken back came up and God powerfully touched her. She ripped off her brace and began to move, dance and jump. All the pain gone and movement restored! The people shouted to God and it was on. Hundreds of people were touched as the service lasted 2 1/2 hours as God moved among His people.

Sunday was even better as I preached through the fourth part of our series on Grace. Hundreds of people responded and were literally liberated by the message of Grace. So many got saved and rededicated over the 5 services.

We ended with our Vision Celebration last night. The place was filled as we shared about the past year and about the future. It was a night like no other and everybody left encouraged. A few of the highlights:

    1) Church has grown to 2,700! 22 % increase over last year.

    2) Youth Ministry has grown 300% in the last 8 months.

    3) Children Ministry now has over 720 children actively attending.

    4) Giving has stayed even from last year and we will hit 4 million dollars in total giving this year.

    5) Announced plans for second campus and the people cheered.

    6) Safe House for young girls escaping the Sex Industry is opening next week.

    7) 899 people getting right with God!

    8) 1,409 guests visiting our church.

    9) 225 water baptisms

    10) 563 Volunteers active in our church.

    Some More Highlights

  • Back In The Saddle

Well today I leave to go do a Men's Conference in Phoenix Arizona. It has been a difficult week and now I am going to preach to a great group of men. Some people say I should take some time off and then come back slowly after I have processed all that has happened. I know that in some circumstances this should be the thing to do.

However I read when Jesus found out about the death of John The Baptist that He went to a remote place to grieve and the crowds showed up. What did Jesus do? He began to minister to those that came to Him. I believe that in the midst of my grief that I can still be used by Jesus to reach out and touch others.

I believe that one of the paths to healing from emotional trauma is to reach out and help others. Never forget that whatever you give away will come back to you. So tonight and tomorrow morning I am giving away hope and healing in Jesus. I look forward to the return of it in my life.

  • No TV

Last night as I was finishing dinner I felt a prompting to pray instead of watching T.V. After the kids went to bed I told my wife I needed to go pray outside. As I walked out into the desert night I felt a sense of peace and stillness. I looked up and saw all the stars and begin to contemplate on the greatness of God! It was in that moment that I realized how much Jesus really loves me and is concerned with all aspects of my life.

I sensed what an awesome priviledge we have to come to the Throne of Grace to obtain mercy in time of need. The scripture came pouring into my being from Philippians 4:6-7 not to worry about anything instead pray about everything! So last night instead of watching T.V I spent time under the stars praying about everything. As I poured out my heart to God I began to sense the Peace of God. That He is going to take care of everything, all I need to do is trust Him.

How about you today? Maybe it is time to turn off the T.V and tune into the Lord through prayer. Jesus is the best show on tonight. Go speak to Him tonight and then let Him to speak to you.

  • The Pastor Receives

It is great to Pastor the Greatest Church in America. You see most of the time as a Pastor I am ministering to my people, but during this time of my life the people are really ministering to me. We have been so overwhelmed with the love and prayers of our people. I know that having 2 1/2 thousand people is great, but having loving, caring Christ Followers is even better.

Thank you to all of my friends and Pastors who have written emails, sent texts and have overwhelmed us with flowers. You love and compassion is such a support during this time. The Bible says in Galatians 6:2 "Bear one another's burdens and so fulfill the law of Christ." Thank you to everybody who is living this scripture!

  • The Day After

It is Tuesday morning, the day after Wendy was in the hospital. As many of you know we lost our fourth child in the 3rd month of pregnancy. It has been one of the most challenging times for us as Parents and Pastors. Even though we did not get to see our baby with your eyes he was already in our hearts. It is during this time that Jesus and His Word become even more real to me.

I found comfort in Psams 16:7 - 11 and will share some of my insights:

    1) Continue to Bless the Lord even in the hard times.

    2) God is the one who is directing my steps.

    3) God is always with me and He will keep me stable.

    4) God will bring me out emotionally from this trauma.

    5) God is still God and will continue to lead me towards abundant life.

    6) God's Presence brings comfort and joy.

    7) God has a special reunion for me and my son.

  • A Day At The Hospital

Today I was at the hospital with my wife Wendy. I want to thank everybody for their prayers as we walk through a tough time in our lives. Many of you know that Wendy lost her baby after 3 months of being pregnant.

It is hard time but I thank God that He is with us and that He will never leave us nor forsake us. I will write more tomorrow.

  • Aloha

Just had an awesome time last nigt preaching for Word of Life Christian Center in Hawaii with Pastor Art Sepulveda. It is one of the most passionate places where one can preach. The Move of God was awesome as so many were touched by the Power of God.

Thank you to all of you who were praying for me as I was ministering in Hawaii. I know what you are thinking "It must be tough to preach in Hawaii?" It is not tough to preach in Hawaii, it is tough leaving my family.

Pray for us this weekend here in Vegas. We plan on seeing more people get right with God and for our services to be Passionate.

  • The Little Things Matter

I remember seeing a book that said "Don't Sweat The Small Stuff It Is Still Small Stuff." But then I read that Jesus said if you are faithful over a little he will make you ruler of much (Matthew 25:23). I don't think we need to sweat the small stuff  but pay attention to the little stuff. God is looking for us to pay attention and be faithful in the small stuff and then we can handle the bigger stuff.

Today what are you going to pay attention too? The little details are important to help you get elevated to the bigger stuff.

    Remember stuff just happens,

  • Who Are You Trying To Please

Today I am thinking about who am I trying to please. As a Pastor I constantly fight the urge to please people even when I know I cannot possibly do it all. One of the traps is really focusing to much on people and not enough on God.

The question should be asked today "Is God pleased with me?" When you live a God Centered life then all the pressure is taken off of performance and put on being who God has called me to be. Living a God Centered life will cause me to be a pleasant person to others without letting the pleasing people mindset to dominate my life.

How about you today? God or man first. I will take God!

    Life of a Pastor,

    Benny Perez

  • Where Did The Day Go?

I learned an important lesson today. I need to continue to plan out my day or my day will plan it out for me. I usually get set the night before but was running late and decided to go with the flow. The problem with the flow is that it is not flowing in the direction I want.

Solution is to stop and get back to the important things and let the urgent things keep flowing down stream.

  • Perspective

It is Monday Morning and I get a chance to think about what happened this past weekend in church. I get to rejoice and thank the Lord for what He did through us. This past weekend was exciting as 54 people got right with God! The church was alive with excitement and passion for God and people. As my friend Craig Groeschel says we had the "IT" factor working this weekend. The result people coming to Jesus.

So this Monday I am feeling so grateful to be in ministry, serving Jesus. I have learned to take life one day at time. Today is a good day.

  • The Constant In Life: Change

Change can be a very difficult word for all of us. People love to get comfortable in the routines of life. Most of us resist change and don't pray to God for change. Yet we realize change does come, because change is the only constant in life.

Remember that you will never grow unless there is change. So when change comes quit complaining about change because complaining never changes change. Instead realize that God is growing you through all the change you are experiencing. His Grace is sufficient as you are going through changes.

So today whatever changes you are experiencing, learn to embrace them, learn from them and grow from them. You will see a better you on the other side.

  • Back In The Office

Felt prompted to get to church early this morning. I got to the office at 5:45 am before the sun had really risen. Then I went to the worship center to pray and seek the Lord. I was reminded how often times Jesus rose early in the morning to spend time with the Father. The scripture came pouring back into my mind "Don't worry about anything but in everything with prayer and supplication, let your requests be made known to God." Phil. 4:6

    This morning I learned that:

    1) Prayer really does relieve the worry.

    2) Starting the day early with prayer makes you more focused.

    3) Beating the sun to meet the Son makes a world of difference.

    4) I get more done in an hour with nobody around than 2 with the office buzzing.

    5) I like praying not just at 5:45 am every morning.

  • 700 Miles In One Day

Well yesterday I drove over 700 miles in one day. I left Vegas to drive to San Diego to see my friend's Sergio Delamora's new church. He is building an incredible facility and I wanted to get ideas for our new building. I took 4 staff members and left at 5 am in the morning and got back home to Vegas at 6 pm.

I learned on this one day road trip a few things:

    1) Travel with people you like. This applies to doing ministry with people you like.

    2) Getting out of your familiar surroundings gets the creative juices flowing.

    3) Look and ask as many questions as you can.

    4) Learn from others ideas and ask the why behind those ideas.

    5) Remain a teachable person.

    6) Don't try and copy but learn to adapt things for your environment.

    7) Don't too many of these trips in one week.

Thanks for reading my first blog.
